Chapter 55
After we got Eva back, things moved in a blur. We went right back to the car where Mason was already waiting, not a scratch on him for someone who went towards active shooting.
She looked confused at the stranger, but our trust in him seemed to soothe her, and this was no time to explain. Marcus put her in the car, and Joon climbed in with her, the two cuddling in the back.
“Where’s the other one of you?” Mason asked.
“He went after the two guys,” I explained. “One of them was probably Jason.”
Mason looked annoyed. “Okay, let’s hope he gets back quickly. I don’t have time for this.”
“Things go well on your end?” Marcus asked, passing back the gun we luckily didn’t need.
Mason rolled his neck, his irritation obvious. “Everyone inside was taken care of,” he said casually, like he wasn’t talking about murder. “But their leader and his pack fled before we even arrived. He must have been tipped off somehow.”
I nodded. Though none of it was my business, I hoped for the world's sake that Mason brought that bastard down.
We waited around for a little while, everyone’s anxiety about Cameo’s absence growing by the minute.
“Maybe I should go get him,” Marcus said.
“It’s not worth it,” Mason said. “You don’t know where he went. If you get lost too then we’ll just be looking for you.”
I could see his point, but it didn’t help anyone's apprehension.
Finally, Cameo came from the gate. Marcus and I rushed him, making sure he was okay.
“Miss me or something?” he asked.
“Where were you?” I asked, not bothering with his sarcasm.
“I took care of it,” he said simply. “Jason won’t be a problem anymore.”
I nodded. Most people would probably feel at least a little bit bad, or even put off by his obvious end. But I felt relief not only for my omega, but for the streaming community. Having someone like him in it was always a detriment, and now he’s gone.
“Where did you leave them?” Mason asked. “I’ll have my clean up team deal with it.”
“Near the edge of the woods,” he said. “Towards the base, I didn’t let them get far.”
He only nodded, looking at his phone and turning away.
“Is she okay?” he asked.
“Yes,” I said. “Shaken, but fine.”
We all went to the car where Cameo flung it open. Eva flinched at the sudden movement, her eyes wide, but started welling fresh tears when she saw Cam.
She leapt from the car into his arms. “Cam!” was all she managed.
He hushed her, just letting her cry. I was surprised he was being so relaxed about it, considering his normal reaction to her tears.
When she pulled away, she gasped loudly. “You’re bleeding!”
We all crowded him. It was hard to tell because he was in all black, but there was a darker wet spot on his side.
“It’s not mine,” he promised, but by the way he favored it a bit, I wasn’t sure that was true.
“We should get you both looked at,” I said.
“I’m fine,” Cameo said. “Let’s just go home.”
“You need a doctor,” Marcus insisted.
“I said I’m—”
“Mason is a doctor,” Joon interrupted us all.
We all looked at him, and then looked at Mason, who didn’t look happy that his services were just being offered up.
With a long, decisive sigh, he said, “Everyone in the car. My kit is in the back. I’ll check you out at your house.”
No one could argue with that. We all piled in the back, and Mason started the long drive home.
When we arrived, Eva was fitfully asleep, so we put her in my room while Cameo insisted on being seen downstairs. When he took his shirt off, there was a long gash on his side.
“Jesus,” Marcus said. “You should have said something.”
“Not a big deal,” Cameo insisted. “I’m more interested in a shower. You should check Eva first.”
“You just need a few stitches; taking care of it now will be easier.”
Mason suddenly looked… like a whole different person.
Gone was the tough mafia man, and here was a concentrated doctor with his sleeves rolled up and glasses perched on his face.
He rifled through his bag until he pulled out an orange bottle. “Take these,” he said, dumping a few into Cameo’s open hand.
He tossed them back dry. Joon was glued to Cameo’s other side. We’d insisted he step away, but he promised he could handle it, and so far, that was true.
“I’m going to go check on Eva,” I said, feeling anxious about leaving her.
I took the stairs two at a time before opening my door. She was asleep still, looking calm and rested. Just then, I let the tight coil of anxiety I’d been holding onto since this all started release. Everyone was home and safe.
Thank fuck.
Gently, I brushed some of her bangs to the side, which is when I saw the beginnings of a bruise on the edge of her hairline. We hadn’t noticed it before. Could she have a concussion?
“Eva,” I said, shaking her lightly.
She furrowed her brows a bit, but didn’t stir.
“Eva, wake up,” I said a bit louder than I meant.
Eventually, she did blink her eyes open. There was fear in them for a moment, but it was quickly replaced with relief when she saw me.
“Indi,” she said with a tired smile.
“How are you feeling?” I asked. “Are you dizzy?” I had no clue what the signs of a concussion were.
She sat up slowly, and I put my hand out to steady her as she leaned against the headboard. “I think I’m okay,” she said. “My head just hurts.”
Her head hurt? She probably did have a concussion then.
“Okay, Mason is going to come check you out soon.”
She rubbed at her temples. “Who’s Mason?”
“Joon’s brother.”
She paused her movement, looking over. “Oh.”
“I’ll tell you about it later,” I promised.
We sat like that until Mason arrived. I stepped back to let him check her over.
He did a bunch of stuff I could hardly keep track of.
It seemed like that bag was endless with the amount of monitors he pulled out and unfolded.
He took blood and put it through a machine.
It was like our room became a doctor's office in the blink of an eye.
Eva received a barrage of questions, and she answered every one calmly and clearly.
Once he was done, Mason started packing back up. “No concussion,” he concluded. “Just the bruise on the head and some scratches you’ll want to keep clean. All of her vitals are normal, and the fetus seems unaffected, though I would double-check with your OBGYN.”
Both of us stared wide eyed at Mason. “What was that last part?” Eva asked.
Mason scrunched his brows. “You didn’t know?”
We both shook our heads. “Well, congratulations if that’s what you wanted, and condolences if not.”
Eva laughed. “I see how you and Joon are related.”
“I’m adopted, actually,” he said. “I need to be going. If you need anything, Joon has my number.”
With that, he left.
“They both have that same… prickliness,” I agreed.
“He’s just not cute like Joon is.”
“No,” I agreed with a light laugh. With Mason gone, I moved to sit on the edge of the bed. “How are you feeling?”
She smirked. “The doc just gave me a clean bill of health.”
“Not about that,” I said. “About the baby.”
“Oh.” She fidgeted with the blanket between her fingers. “Good, this is what we wanted, right?”
“Yeah, but now that it’s happening, how do you actually feel?”
She looked down towards her stomach, letting a hand drift over it. “I… at first, I thought I’d be scared when this day came. Because that meant the timer officially started, and soon you guys wouldn’t need me anymore.”
I tried to jump in, to tell her that was never the case, but she continued, “But now I know how you guys really feel. And having a family with you all… is more than I could have dreamed.”
“It’s all we’ve ever wanted, too,” I confirmed, pulling her in for a kiss.
It was meant to be a chaste, comforting kiss, but it quickly turned heated, each of us holding on to the other like we needed this to survive.
We were soon flipped, Eva on top of me, her hands gliding along my skin. My shirt was gone, then hers. All of our clothes seemed to melt off as we moved around each other. There was no sense of urgency, only passion between us.
Her hand stroked over my already pulsing cock. My breath came in quick stutters against her lips.
“My perfect doll,” I said. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” she said.
Eva took my cock and lined me up with her entrance. I slid inside her easily with the amount of slick pouring from her. Our bodies ground against each other slowly, reverently.
Her moans dotted the air, creating the most beautiful harmony.
“Mark me,” she begged. “I want to be yours.”
“Are you sure?” I asked. “There’s no going back.”
“There’s never been going back,” she asserted. “It’s always been you, since the moment we met.”
My chest filled with love. I tugged her down, kissing her hard. I continued trailing kisses down her jaw, her neck, her collarbone, all the way to her chest. Right above her heart.
I let my teeth sink into her, the bond snapping into place in my mind. It’s like she filled a space I hadn’t realized was empty, in need of love.
“Yes,” she cried.
I could feel her clamp down around me, coming for me. It didn’t take long for me to follow her over the edge, my knot pushing into her slowly.
When my teeth released, a pretty red mark sat there, right over her heart. I licked it, letting my saliva kickstart the healing.
She fell against me after that, our heavy breathing falling in sync.
Once we each caught our breath, I kissed the top of her head.
“We should probably go tell the others the news,” I said.
“You’re right,” she said, starting to pull off of me, before she realized we were locked together. “I guess after we’re apart.”
We both laugh, lying comfortably in each other's arms.
This was it, the start of our new lives, and I couldn’t wait to tell the others.
