“If a woman sleeps with twenty men, that makes her a slut. What do you call a man who does the same?” Daylen asks everyone in the locker room after a light off-season workout.
“Probably gay,” Champ answers without hesitation.
The guys all laugh hysterically at the unusual humor from Champ, with Daylen laughing hard enough to bring down the entire stadium.
They all continue chatting about their nonsense, but their voices fade into the distance for me as I brush my freshly washed hair, putting a little extra effort into it because I get to see Fallon tonight.
I’m having dinner with Pierce first, but then I’m going to Fallon’s house. She finally moved out of Tanner’s home. I’m hoping it means more than two nights a week together, though I suppose with our various custody arrangements, it won’t.
We’ve had the best month together. It’s already so comfortable and easy. We’re compatible in every single way imaginable. Where has this woman been my whole life?
“…lighten a man’s mustache,” I hear Beau say.
“Huh?” I ask. “What are you talking about?”
His head snaps toward me as if not realizing I was listening. “Oh…umm… I was saying that the chemistry of a woman’s…juices can lighten a man’s mustache.”
Daylen nods as he rubs his unruly blond facial hair. “Why do you think my hair is this color?”
I exhale a long breath in annoyance. Vance gives me a crooked smile as he pats my back. “It’s all talk with him.” He scrunches his face. “Actually, it’s not. Women flock to him. He’s so smooth.”
“And you?” I ask.
He shrugs. “I’m not really a sleep with random women kind of guy. It’s not my thing.”
I nod. “I need my daughter to meet a man like you.” Vance and Kennedy together would be a dream come true for me.
He chuckles. “No offense, Coach, but Kennedy isn’t ready to settle down with one guy.”
My face falls. “What does that mean?”
“Nothing.” He bites back a smile. “I heard about your…visit to Nastya. Is a lady the reason you’re looking especially groomed today?”
I shake my head. “I’m having dinner with Pierce.” I pull up an app on my phone that tracks his location and show it to Vance. “It looks like he’s pulling into the stadium lot now.”
Daylen appears out of nowhere and peeks over my shoulder. “Oh my god, you track your kid? He’s seventeen. Why?”
“When I was a kid, I’d be facedown drunk in a field when my parents thought I was staying at a friend’s house. That’s why I track my kid.”
He chuckles and asks, “Where are you going to dinner?”
When I tell him which fancy steakhouse, he lets out a whistle. “Wow. Expensive.”
I nod. “No shit. When I was seventeen, my dad still made me order chicken nuggets off the kids’ menu. Pierce orders oysters as an appetizer, then a ribeye steak for dinner, and a chocolate soufflé for dessert. And he’s been doing that since he was nine.”
Vance and Daylen smile in amusement as Pierce walks in. They all high-five him and mess his hair while busting his balls about being short. He takes it in stride, basking in their attention.
The guys on the team have always been kind to my son. I very much appreciate it.
Daylen nods at him. “Your dad tracks you. Stay out of trouble.”
Pierce rolls his eyes. “Dad, you’re so unc.”
I look at Vance in question, and he smirks. “It means you’re old. Like an uncle.”
“At what age do they start talking like human beings again? When do they grow up?”
Vance turns to Daylen. “D, how old are you?”
“Thirty-three.”
Vance looks at me and shrugs. “Maybe thirty-four will be his time. I think you’re in this for the long haul.”
Pierce is now digging into his steak as I look at him. “Buddy, it’s been a few years since your mom and I split. How would you feel about me starting to date?” I try to throw it out casually, to test the waters.
His knife and fork dramatically hit the plate. I can see his face turning red. “Dad, can’t you just wait a little longer? I’ll be in college later this year.” He tugs on his hair. “I just don’t want to see it. It makes me uncomfortable to think about you and Mom with other people.”
I can practically see his blood pressure rising. This is so unhealthy. He’s not a baby. We’ve been divorced for years. He should be able to handle this better.
“Maybe we can discuss it with Dr. Lucadamo,” I suggest.
His hand physically shakes as his eyes meet mine. “Please, Dad. Just wait. I’m stressed about college. I know Mom has a boyfriend—his crap is all over the house. I don’t need this too,” he practically cries.
I hold up my hands. “Okay, okay. Calm down. I get it.”
I didn’t know Ginny had a boyfriend. I personally don’t give a crap, but we had agreed to hold off on anything in front of Pierce until he graduated, per his wishes. And she probably should have mentioned it to me. I would never let on anything about Fallon without discussing it with Ginny first.
We’re silent for a few moments before I redirect the conversation to Kennedy. That always lifts his spirits. It sounds like they have weekly lunches and are finally forming a real relationship. I’m happy to hear it.
Two hours later, I walk into Fallon’s house with a gift box containing lingerie, which I buy her all the time, and a bottle of wine in hand. She had given me her code and told me to let myself in because she was planning to take a bath before I arrived. “Fallon?” I call.
I hear her sweet voice. “I’m upstairs. Still in the bath. I’ll get out.”
“Don’t,” I shout back, wanting that visual of her. “Give me a minute to open the wine. I’ll be right up. Stay right where you are.”
I uncork the bottle, grab two glasses from her kitchen, and practically skip upstairs with excitement. I make my way into her huge en suite bathroom and see her sexy body relaxing in the oversized tub.
Her hair is messily up in a clip, her eyes are closed, her face is flushed from the warm water, and her arms are spread out on the lip of the tub. I can just make out the tops of her breasts above the bubbles. She looks so…regal.
“You’re beautiful,” I can’t help but breathe out loud.
Her eyes open as the corners of her mouth turn up. “Come join me. I’m too relaxed to get out.”
“Is it big enough for me? Not many tubs are.”
“When Harper was little, she could sit in here with ten of her friends and have room to spare. You’re basically like six of them, so I think the math still works. I’ll let out a little water to be safe.”
I undress as she drains some of the water. When I’m naked, she stares at my hardening cock. “Okay, maybe at certain times you’re more like eight people, but it still works.”
I chuckle as I pour the wine, place the glasses on the ledge, and climb into the tub across from her.
She screeches when I immediately grab her for a soft kiss before turning her around so her back is on my chest, pulling her as close to me as I can, happily sinking my nose into her neck and taking in her heavenly scent.
“Jeez, you manhandle me a little too easily.”
“I thought you liked to be manhandled.”
She smiles as she leans her head back on my chest and closes her eyes in contentment. “Hmm, true. Manhandle away.”
I run my hands up and down the feminine curves of her soft body, loving the uninhibited access she gives me. I could happily touch her body for hours.
Eventually, my hands find her shoulders, and I begin to massage them. She moans, not helping the hard cock situation.
“Are you happy to finally be home?” I ask.
“Umm hmm. So happy. I loved being with Harper every day, but being in someone else’s house and living out of a suitcase for that long is trying. Plus, I missed my tub. Lucky for me, I have some company in here now.”
I kiss her head. “I’m the lucky one.”
I offer her one of the glasses of wine, and she happily obliges. Taking a sip of the white wine I bought just for her, she licks her lips and asks, “Do I detect notes of plum?”
I roll my eyes. She loves to fuck with me about which fruits belong in which wines, knowing full well plum would never be in this type.
“You’re quite the comedian.”
She giggles. I love her sweet laugh.
Grabbing my glass, I enjoy my first sip as I take in my surroundings. I’ve spent so much time drinking good wine alone. It’s exponentially better doing so with her, especially naked in a bath and with her in my arms.
“How are you feeling about the past few days?” I ask. “Are you okay with everything?” She told me about the craziness that went down yesterday with Tanner and Bailey. It sounds like a damn movie.
She takes a gulp and nods her head. “I truly am. It’s not like I didn’t know where things were headed.
I didn’t expect it all in one day, but it was inevitable.
Harper’s excited about the wedding. We’re waiting to tell her about the baby.
Bailey has an appointment with her doctor next week.
Once they confirm the health of the pregnancy, the three of us will sit down with her and tell her. ”
“You’ll be there too?” I ask.
“Yes. Harper needs to see my buy-in to Tanner and Bailey’s relationship and their expanding family. It’s best for her that I’m there with a smile on my face, letting her know it’s okay to be excited about this.”
“Is it best for you?” I ask with concern. This is a lot for her to take in. I know her divorce wasn’t easy on her.
She shrugs. “I’m a mother. My needs are secondary to my daughter’s. I’ll always choose what’s best for her. If being Aunt Fallon to her new sibling is best, that’s exactly what I’ll be.”
I kiss her cheek. This is what motherhood is supposed to look like. Ginny could take a few lessons. My ex-wife is more like, Ginny first, kids second. It was always so unattractive to me.
She looks at the glass in her hand. “Damn, this is really good.”
“I told you good wine tastes better. I’m determined to teach you the difference.”
She smiles at the constant conversation topic over the past month. When I saw some of the appalling bottles in her wine refrigerator, I poured them down the drain and replaced them with bottles I knew she’d enjoy.
“How much do you normally spend on a bottle of wine?” she asks.
