Jett

“Great hands, Rook,” I praise as I slap Anthony “Linc” Lincoln’s shoulder pads.

He’s a rookie wide receiver we drafted. DeBurg didn’t want him on the team, but I saw something in his college tapes that I liked and pressed hard to select him.

He might be a little undersized by pro football standards, but he runs tight routes and has fantastic hands.

Our other young receiver is a bad seed. I’d love to cut him after mini-camp and slot Linc into his spot.

The kid has a great attitude. I think he could balance out our offense nicely, giving Vance another viable option.

Linc gives me a boyish smile. Fuck, he’s so young and wet behind the ears. It makes me feel old.

After practice and then a brief team workout in the gym, I get showered. I’m having dinner with Vance tonight before driving up into the mountains for Pierce’s camping trip. Their school’s baseball team has a big game, so all the boys wanted to watch it before leaving to go camping.

It works for me because I can get things off my chest with Vance.

It’s been weighing heavily on me. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t warn him.

I’m not going to tell him about the quashed trade with San Diego.

He doesn’t need to know this organization was about to give up on him.

Just that our jobs are on the line if we don’t win this year.

He should know so he can leave everything on the field.

There’s a bit of commotion in the team kitchen. I walk in there in time to hear Daylen loudly announce, “When I slap a mosquito, it stops sucking,” followed by raucous laughter from the guys.

I can only imagine what that imbecile was saying. So much for him maturing.

He gives me a nervous smile while I narrow my eyes at him. “I don’t want to know the joke. The punchline was enough for me. You’re going to have to grow up at some point, Humblecut. God help the unlucky woman who’s saddled with you one day.”

He cringes before returning to his usual goofy face. “Beau is making Bon…I mean protein shakes. Would you like one, Coach? He says we’ll feel like Superman at our workout tomorrow if we drink it now.”

I’m not taking this moron’s word for it. I search for Beau and find him at the blender. “That true, Fudd?”

Beau nods. “Yes, sir. It’s a proven formula. It will be the best workout of your life. Guaranteed.”

“Any potential side effects?” I ask. “I’m not young like you lot.”

Beau has a bit of an indiscernible look on his face. “Well…umm…you’ll be stronger in everything you do. Everything.”

That sounds good to me. “Fantastic. Maybe my eyes will reap the benefits and I won’t need my reading glasses tomorrow.”

I down it in one large gulp.

Vance mumbles to me, “I can’t believe we just blindly drank something Daylen gave us.”

I wave my hand dismissively. “I trust Fudd.”

“Yeah, but I feel like there needs to be a warning label on anything from Daylen.”

“Warning labels,” I bark in amusement. “Not to brag, but my generation never needed a warning not to eat laundry detergent or use Super Glue as eyedrops. We just knew.”

He chuckles before we agree to meet at the steakhouse for dinner.

My dinner with Vance went as well as can be expected under the circumstances. He was as gobsmacked as I was. I wasn’t at all surprised he handled it with class and dignity. I think he’ll keep it confidential just as I asked him to.

He’s such a good man. I’ve been hoping he and Kennedy would connect, but it sounds like he and Sulley have something going on, though he didn’t elaborate. Unlike Daylen, Vance doesn’t tout his sexual exploits. I imagine he’s respectful to anyone he dates.

I’m with Pierce, sitting around the campfire making s’mores with the other fathers and sons.

I’m quietly taking in my surroundings while Pierce laughs with his friends.

I don’t see any signs of anxiety. Encouraging him not to pursue football in college is truly the best thing that has ever happened to him.

He has a few slipups from time to time, but he’s otherwise a changed kid from a few years ago.

He would never have come on a trip like this back then.

He would have worried about every little thing, from potential rain to bugs and who he would talk to at the campfire.

I’m happy to see that the therapy is working.

I wish I could talk to him about Fallon, but he asked us not to date until he leaves for college, and we’re coming down the homestretch.

Speaking of college, Pierce had the most mature conversation of his life with me a few weeks ago.

He said he’s given it a lot of thought and appreciates why we want him to consider a fresh start out of state, but being around his sister is more important to him.

He wants to go to a local college. Rooster plans to attend the same school, and they’re going to be roommates.

He said, given his anxiety issues, having a familiar roommate calms his nerves regarding moving away, albeit only twenty minutes from home.

He was calm, cool, and collected. It was obvious he had put real thought into it.

Even though I think it’s best for him to move away, I didn’t put up a fight because of how he handled our conversation, one I know was probably not easy for a kid like him.

He didn’t use outrageous Gen Z lingo. He was rational.

I’m proud of him for manning up and having the hard conversation with me.

I decided to support his decision wholeheartedly.

I want to reinforce that type of behavior.

I quietly observe the large group at the campgrounds.

Only a few of the other fathers talk to me, as usual.

I think they’re a little starstruck, which is silly, but that’s how it’s always been.

They either annoyingly overtalk about the Camels or are afraid to speak to me at all while whispering like I can’t hear them.

Frankly, I prefer the latter to the former, but I’d rather just be a regular dad who talks about dad shit, whatever that may be.

At some point, I say goodnight to everyone and head to my tent. I’m not sure the blowup mattress will support my heavy body, but I hope to grab at least a few hours of sleep.

I wake up startled at some point and in a bit of pain. I look over and find Pierce sound asleep. Picking up my phone, I see that it’s a little after one in the morning.

A shot of pain hits my groin. I look down to discover my dick is painfully hard. What the hell? Morning wood is normal since I met Fallon, but a painfully hard boner waking me up out of a dead sleep in the middle of the night? Nope, not normal.

Shit. I lift my sweatpants and underwear to take a closer look at it. Did I get bitten by something down there? It really hurts, but I see no evidence of a bite. I have this overwhelming need to come, way more than normal. What’s wrong with me?

Am I going to have to jerk off? I’m certainly not doing that in this damn tent with my son a few feet away from me.

Grabbing my flashlight, phone, and keys, I limp for fifteen painful minutes until I reach my car. It’s a good thing everyone was asleep because this thing looks like it’s trying to break through my sweatpants.

Settling into the driver’s seat, I look around to make sure I don’t see anyone before I slip my hand into my boxers and begin stroking myself. I haven’t jerked off in a car since I was sixteen, but immediate relief is needed for some unknown reason.

I close my eyes and imagine Fallon’s face while she was sucking my cock the other night.

Her pink lips wrapped around me while she took me deep into her throat.

The way she cups my balls makes me lose my mind.

The way she moves her hands around my body.

The way she enjoys giving me pleasure. She gets off on it.

Ooh, the little sounds she makes. So perfect.

It takes all of two minutes for me to come. The problem is, I’m still hard. What is happening? Is this the Fallon effect? I’m a horny bastard all the time.

I think I need her to deal with this. I have no idea if she’ll be awake at this hour, but I can try. They have their season opener tomorrow. Maybe she’s awake with a little anxiety over her coaching debut.

I open our text string.

Me: Any chance you’re still awake?

I’m relieved when I immediately see three dots, having learned it means someone is typing on the other end.

Fallon: Yes, I’m not used to sleeping alone anymore when Harper is gone. I can’t fall asleep. My body is too busy remembering yours. I miss having you next to me. Over me. Under me. Inside me.

I smile. I always miss her. Every single second I’m not with her.

Me: Miss you too, angel face. Can we FaceTime? I’m having an issue, and I need to see you.

Fallon: Of course.

Two seconds later, I’ve never been happier for advancements in technology, because her gorgeous face is lighting up my screen.

I can tell she’s in her bed with her head on the pillow.

Her room is dark, but the phone illuminates her stunning features and blonde hair fanned out around her. She looks like an actual angel.

I smile the second I see her. “Hello, my beautiful girl.”

She returns my smile. “Hello, my love. Is everything okay?”

I twist my lips, suddenly feeling embarrassed. “Yes…sort of.”

She looks more closely at the screen. “Are you in your car?” she asks with surprise in her tone.

“Yes, I’m alone in the parking lot of the campsite.”

“You couldn’t sleep either?”

I look around, again making sure no one is nearby. Whispering, as if it matters, I say, “I fell asleep, but I woke up with a giant—and I mean giant—boner. It’s massive. And it hurts. I don’t know what to do.”

She spits in laughter. “Okay. Did something turn you on?”

I lift an unamused eyebrow. “You know you’re the only thing on this planet that turns me on.”

She smiles in satisfaction. “Good answer. So why the boner?”

I sigh. “I don’t know, but it’s big and it hurts. A lot.”
