Adira

The forest here is so thick that it’s damn near dark. The marked path on the screen had disappeared as I turned onto an even tinier road. My confused satnav had then given up on me entirely.

I ‘m sweating again. I slow down and open all the windows. This has to go somewhere, right?

Suddenly, my vision blurs around the edges, and I feel woozy. Shit.

I brake as quickly as I can, doing my best to get to the side of the narrow road. I throw the Wrangler into park and lean my head against the wheel as my eyes close.

The blood pounds in my ears, blocking out the gentle forest sounds. I shove the door open and stagger out, breathing deep.

An urgent sound, my ears roaring. Am I having a heart attack?

I bend over, and as I turn my head, I see two of those four-wheeler-car-things.

I fall forward, the sight fading away to black.
