D ear Rhodes,

I almost drove home today.

I didn’t tell you this on the phone earlier, but I wanted to turn right around after killing a bird with my front bumper. There were still feathers stuck in the grill when I got to my campsite (cue whole body shudder). I’ll spare you the rest of the morbid details, but I can officially say I’ve attended a funeral for roadkill.

Please stop laughing.

I’m serious!

I know what you’re thinking, but you have to know this was terrifying. I’ve never killed anything. You know, I’d rather safely capture a spider I find inside to release it back into the wild than take a shoe to it. It was scarring in a way that first-time experiences can be, and I guess that’s why it feels big: because I’m still here.

I’m still reaching for good, even when it’s hard.

I still want whatever this adventure brings.

I’m open to it changing my mind.

And I really hope it does.

Yours,

Paige
