Epilogue Part 2
Back in December…
Louis Bellmore believed in second chances. However, he didn’t quite know what to think of the multitude of second chances the universe had been delivering to him recently. His gratitude overflowed not just for the new NHL team, the Dragons, of which he was head coach. But because the team’s owner, Miranda Fairchild, was all about second chances for him, for the players and their careers. Including one of his favorite players of all time, and his team captain, Maverick Blades.
Louis had a chance to give these players a revitalized career, and as a bonus, he was just a short drive from his hometown of Sweetheart Creek and his family and friends.
And sure, there was a lot of work to do with the Dragons. They were a new NHL team, and weren’t exactly doing amazing, but as the season progressed, so did they. They’d actually secured a W or two and were gaining fans.
He was blessed to do a job he loved.
And not only that, but a steal of a deal had come up on a house in the town he’d grown up in. He now lived right next door to what had been the Hopewells’ cabin, set on Cherry Lane in good ol’ Sweetheart Creek.
That meant he was minutes away from the town’s tiny grass airstrip. And as luck would have it, a hanger for his new Cessna had become available. Better yet, there was a noncommercial airport close to the Dragons’ arena, meaning he could literally fly to work. Two passions satisfied, and living in a town that felt like family.
But even sweeter was that his little piece of real estate had landed him as a next-door neighbor to Hannah Murphy, the woman he’d crushed on as a teenager. And yeah, this might be where his lucky streak ran out, because she was certain to recall all the ways that his straightforward style, which worked beautifully as an NHL coach, hadn’t done much for her sweet and gentle spirit. As a teen she’d had her entire life planned out, centered around a man Louis had always felt wasn’t quite enough for her.
And now, for the first time since she was a teen, Hannah was single again.
Living right next door.
Louis didn’t even have to make an excuse to bump into her. All he had to do was convince Hannah that instead of being enemies, they should be friends.
And then, maybe not so long after that, more than friends.
Easy, right?
