Chapter 40 Khalid
Sage was the one who was working in Headmaster Mykene’s office, but Lucian was the one with a texting relationship with her.
It started with Forsaken One jokes, but I was pretty sure it evolved into inside jokes that were above everyone’s head except those two.
I caught him looking at his phone and smirking sometimes and since he didn’t use social media and generally thought everyone was an idiot, it had to be Headmaster Mykene because Sage was always with us.
We didn’t text because Professor Kane’s phone was generally dead until I plugged it in to charge it for her, but she was hilarious and we had our own inside jokes no one else would get.
I wasn’t jealous, and I never considered myself the smartest person in the room.
I wouldn’t like myself if I ever got to that point, either.
Headmaster Mykene was waiting for us in her office. Her laptop was hooked to a television.
“Amira Baz is the reincarnation of Aset. Most of you would know her by the Greek name Isis. She runs the Egyptian school. Several of you, technically, should have been hers. There was an earthquake that damaged the school. The damage wasn’t extensive, but the students couldn’t live there.
It was decided to transfer the students and do a complete gut and update.
“She wants updates on the Egyptian students here since they should have been hers. She knows who all of you were in your previous life and that Apep is back. Amira is definitely going to want to know they woke up trespassing at her school.”
The reincarnation of Isis was about as stunning as you’d imagine a god who was also a queen would be.
Isis and Anubis were deeply connected in their first life.
If I’d ended up at her school, I didn’t know if she would have ended up some kind of mentor to me.
I ended up where I was supposed to be since Sage was here.
“You said there’s been a development with Apep?” she asked.
“I’ll let the ones who discovered explain.”
I took over, and no one stopped me. This woman would have been my headmaster if things had been different and she’d, apparently, taken an interest in me, anyway.
“We unleashed the reincarnations of Loki and Hermes in our magical combat class and Hermes pickpocketed the burner phone the reincarnation of Bastet saw her with when she was spying as a cat after dunking her head in a toilet and knocking her unconscious. All the text messages on the phone are written in emojis, but we’ve got people trying to figure it out.
Except the text messages go back two years and the only messages are between two people.
We were thinking they might have trespassed at the school while it was being renovated and taken a dip in the pool. ”
Amira started swearing in Arabic. Damn. If she said that she was pissed.
“I need to find one of the security guards I fired. It was just him because it was late and it’s very hard to accidentally discover our school.
He’s a werewolf, and the moon was very full one night, so he decided to take a run around the grounds.
While he was having moon zoomies for hours, two people broke in.
When he reported it, he said it was just two teenagers looking for a place to have sex, so he gave them a warning and let them go.
“Except we weren’t going to have security cameras until after renovations are complete.
He was out for hours and he couldn’t tell me when they broke in or how long they were in the building, just that he found them in the common room having sex on a couch.
It’s very difficult to find our pool, and it’s just water unless you’re a reincarnation.
It had to be them. It never sat right with me that the board only wanted him fired instead of hunting down who broke in. ”
“I have things to say about this mysterious board. They lied to my parents and then they lied to you, so you ended up lying to me,” Lucian said.
“The board is made up of the reincarnations of god kings. They think because they have a penis and were in charge during a completely different era, we should do everything they say now. Unfortunately, only the board gets to vote and they think things should stay the way they are,” Amira sighed.
“They bumble over webcam board meetings while the rest of us run things in the trenches. They are completely aware of what’s happening here, but don’t want to get involved. If you ask me, it’s because they don’t want a ninety-pound original eating their shade because that would be embarrassing.”
“Well, I upped security at my school after the breach. There is more than one guard, and I had the cameras installed earlier than planned. It would be much harder to get in, much less stumble on the pool. Of course, this doesn’t fix that someone already did, and they ended up psychopaths.
“The reincarnation of Apep wouldn’t necessarily be a bad person, even if they were awake. If this boy was highly educated in the Christian faith, he’s probably not interested in the obvious grudge of punishing who banished him to Fairy. There is some other motive.”
“All we’ve figured out is that Lola is trying to get pregnant and Radames is helping her. But we were under the impression that started a few months ago when she woke up instead of two years ago. And if they are mates in this life, they weren’t together when they were taken.”
“Now that I know it was probably them that broke into my school, I can track their movements and try to give you a timeline of their movements while they were in Egypt.”
“We think they used the emojis like hieroglyphs,” Lucian said.
“If you understand how hieroglyphs work, you could create a language from images. Even if you could read hieroglyphs, which I can, it would take months to years to figure out the language they created.”
“Code breaking is bit of a hobby of mine. It takes about that long.”
“Yes, but we are dealing with eighteen or nineteen-year-olds,” I pointed out.
“They might remember hieroglyphs, but they’ve been using emojis much longer.
I don’t understand half the messages Liam sends in group chat unless it’s about sex.
I’m just guessing here, but I’m betting Adrian uses them, too.
They might be having some luck with the messages. ”
“Well, personally I don’t use them, but if you can get a copy of the messages to us, we can also take a crack at them. They broke with the witch’s binding and Sage isn’t seeing red auras right now. Alexios’s prophecy said when winter turns to summer, so we’ve still got time to stop them.”
I wasn’t sure if Liam had better luck with the text messages, but we at least knew they’d been awake for years because a werewolf decided to run under the moon and they were definitely lovers since they were discovered having sex.
So, why was Lola trying to have everyone else’s baby?
