Chapter 9 – THE TRAP IS SET
Chapter Nine
THE TRAP IS SET
Kassandra paced the confines of the safe house, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and anticipation.
The walls felt as though they were closing in around her, the air thick with tension as she waited for Phantom to return.
She knew that he was out there, risking his life to protect her and Lily, and the thought of losing him now was more than she could bear.
Lily sat on the couch, her small hands clutching a well-worn stuffed animal.
It was a remnant of her life before the cartel had torn it apart.
Kassandra's heart ached for the girl, for the innocence that had been stolen from her, and she vowed to do whatever it took to ensure that she was safe from harm.
The sound of a distant explosion shook the apartment, causing both Kassandra and Lily to jump. Kassandra moved to the window, peering through the curtains in the direction of the noise. Her mind raced with worry, each passing moment stretching into an eternity as she imagined the worst.
“Will Phantom be, okay?” Lily’s voice was small, her eyes wide with fear.
Kassandra turned to face her, forcing a reassuring smile onto her face despite the knot of worry in her stomach.
“Phantom is one of the strongest, most resourceful men I’ve ever known,” she said, her voice steady and confident.
“He's not alone out there. The Bloodhound Brotherhood is with him, and they won't stop until the cartel is defeated.”
Lily nodded, her expression slightly easing at Kassandra's words. Kassandra knew that she had to still be strong for Lily’s sake, had to believe that Phantom would return to them unharmed.
As the night wore on, Kassandra's anxiety grew. She tried to distract herself by tidying the apartment and preparing a simple meal, but her thoughts remained fixed on Phantom and the battle that raged beyond the safe house walls.
Finally, unable to stand the waiting any longer, Kassandra decided. She would not sit idly by while the man she loved fought for their future. She needed to do something, anything, to help.
She turned to Lily, her gaze softening.
