9. Alise #2

When I walked in the house, Carter was sitting on my couch watching television.

He was shirtless, and I wanted to ride his face.

That man made me feel like a horny teenager.

The way I used to dodge sex with Trey was a distant memory.

When it came to Carter, I wanted it all the time.

If my vagina was too sore for penetration, he would just lick, suck, and slurp me into an orgasm.

“How did babysitting go?”

“Fine, until I had to mace a nigga.”

Carter’s brows dipped as he muted the television and sat up straight. “Huh?”

Walking over to him, I straddled him. “Keith popped up looking for Lauren and was mad because she wasn’t there. She pulled up, and they argued for a bit before he pushed her. Then we kind of jumped him, and he pushed her again, so I maced him.”

Carter eyed me. “He put his hands on you?”

“Hell no. I’m not in jail, right?”

Carter shook his head while wrapping his arms around me. “I’m a lawyer. I can’t be out here beating nigga’s asses. You gotta chill because if he would’ve hit you, we’d be having a different conversation right now.”

“Probably not because I wouldn’t have told you. I’d never let you risk your license for a loser like Keith.”

“So, I should take that as you’ll lie to me or keep secrets if it benefits you?”

“Stop being dramatic,” I sucked my teeth, and he chuckled.

“Oh, so it’s cool when you do it, but it’s a problem when I do it?”

Ignoring him, I leaned in and placed a kiss on his lips, then the corner of his mouth. I moved my mouth over and sucked his earlobe into my mouth. Carter’s dick grew underneath me.

“Distracting me with sex is a dirty move,” he massaged my ass cheeks.

“I’m not trying to distract you. I’m trying to feel you,” I spoke into his ear before snaking my tongue into his mouth.

“Say less.”

Carter stood, and I locked my legs around his waist. He carried me to my bedroom and proceeded to rock me to sleep.

A few nights later, I was at a bar with Carter, and Jada and Yohana stopped by.

Jada had already met him briefly, but I formally introduced him to my friends.

E also decided to swing by, and we were gathered in a small group, eating chicken wings and fries and drinking alcohol.

I was standing at the table, and Carter was directly behind me with his body pressed into mine.

The smooth melody of Sade sounded through the speakers, and I rocked my behind against my man.

My daughter was coming to visit for a few days, and I was overly excited.

I often wished I’d had more than one child, but it was something that I had to get past. I loved being a mother, but my baby was an adult.

She still needed me but in a different way and sometimes, that was hard.

A grandchild was the next best thing, however, and my grandbaby was already spoiled, and he hadn’t even been born.

My daughter had a great childhood filled with love, but I did struggle silently.

She never knew when I was having money problems but more often than not, I had to rob Peter to pay Paul.

When back to school, Christmas, or her birthday rolled around, I’d start working overtime or sometimes, I’d even pick up a part-time job.

I did what I had to do to make sure she had a decent life, but things were different.

Before she got engaged, I took pride in being able to take her grocery shopping, taking her on trips and paying for everything, etc.

she was engaged to a good man, and I knew he was more than capable of providing for his child, but I was going to make sure my grandbaby had the best of everything.

Hell, I’d pay for private school if they wanted me to.

When Carter placed his hand flat on my belly and sang into my ear, I couldn’t stop the smile that split my lips. “There must be an angel by my side, something heavenly led me to you, look at the sky, it’s the color of love.”

Lost in our own little world, we swayed back and forth as he sang to me, and I loved every minute of it.

Loud commotion interrupted the groove, and my head snapped up as my orbs darted around the room for the source of the conflict.

There were a bunch of people packed in a not so big space and if a fight broke out, I needed to be close to the door.

I noticed one of the security guards heading in E’s direction. A man and a woman stood in front of him, and the conversation looked tense.

“Fuck,” Carter sucked his teeth and walked toward his friend.

My heart pounded because the same way Carter would protect and ride for me, I knew he’d do it for his friend, and that was what he didn’t need to be doing. He had way too much to lose, but I knew certain things would never leave him no matter how far removed from the streets he was.

Carter and the security guard guided E toward the door.

His jaw muscles were flexing and his nostrils expanding.

E was visibly pissed. The woman and man that had been talking to E remained inside.

The guy was frowning and having a heated moment with the woman.

Curious what was going on, I stepped outside.

Carter and E were a few feet away from the bar further down the sidewalk.

“Nigga, let that shit go!” Carter barked. “You said she broke up with you, so I don’t care if it was one day or one hour, you can’t be running up on her like that. Beefing over women isn’t what we do. Come on man, you gotta tighten up.”

“Man fuck that. All the time and money I spent on that broad. I just paid her fuckin’ car note last week.” I could tell by the slight slur in his words that E was drunk. Nothing paired worse with alcohol than a bruised ego and heart break.

“So, what you gonna tell her to do? Give the money back? Get in my car, bro. I’ll drive you home.”

“I can drive myself home.”
