Chapter 15
Pike
“We still don’t know who shot you. Word on the street is RRMC is lookin’ to move on our turf. They were feelin’ us out. You happened to be outside at the time. That’s just hearsay at this point. We can’t prove this is what’s goin’ on.” We look at Mask as he speaks.
“What’s the point though?” I ask.
“I don’t know brother. I don’t know. Shootin’ you made no sense.”
“What if they were seein’ how good our security is?” Van suggests. That would make sense. They could have been testing us, testing the waters, so to speak.
“It could be. Maybe they were tryin’ to get close to us. Close to see what we are workin’ with?” Mask asks.
“That would make sense.”
“It would,” Mask nods.
“So they wanna hit our clubhouse?” I ask, looking around the table. “They wanna take us down?”
“It would make sense. They got up close and personal, and we fuckin’ let them. You were right outside our fuckin’ clubhouse, brother. They shot you and ran before we got out there.”
“I’ll kill those motherfuckers,” I growl.
“They’re on your list already for Feather. In fact, she’s one of us now. That makes her family,” Mask declares as he glances around the table. No one speaks badly of her. They all like her here, even the girls.
“We take care of family,” Van adds. The others nod, looking at me quickly to let me know they have my back on this shit. I appreciate it, too. I planned on going after them.
“We need to be careful when we’re out alone. Watch your backs. Watch your surroundin’s. If you don’t have to ride alone, don’t. Have your piece on you at all times. If you have to shoot? Shoot to kill. They don’t care who they hurt,” Mask warns. The guys grunt their agreement as do I. “Anyone have anything else?” We shake our heads.
“Then that’s it. Watch the girls closely. We don’t want them goin’ after anyone else. Feather was enough.” Everyone stands as I remain to talk to Mask. When everyone else is out of the room, I grab a cigarette and light it up.
“What’s goin’ on?”
“She’s gonna be stayin’ at my place. I have security in place there.”
“Your place? You don’t let anyone stay there,” he says as I nod my head.
“She’s mine, Mask. Made that decision a while ago, yeah?”
“While you were in the hospital.”
“Exactly. And I plan on keepin’ her as safe as I can. I know she has to work and shit, but they have security there,” I tell him. He nods his head and pulls out his own cigarette before lighting it up.
“Sounds like you have this all planned out then, yeah?”
“Pretty much. I won’t let that fucker near her again.”
“I don’t blame you there. He’s a real piece of work.”
“I can’t even imagine what she must have felt havin’ to do that.”
“Me either, brother. Think we should hit his stash?” I think about the question for a long minute before I nod my head.
“Why not? She knows where it is. We might as well get back what we can.”
“Then let’s do that. See who else he’s fucked over.”
“Heard that. I’ll talk to Feather.” He nods as I stand and leave the room, finding her with the other old ladies. They all get along great, and Feather fits right in with them. That alone makes me happy to see. She smiles, and it lights up the goddamn room before she turns her head and sees me. I can’t help but stare at her. She cocks her head to the side, wondering what the hell I’m looking at so hard before she walks over to me.
“You okay?”
“You’re fuckin’ beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
“No need to thank me. We need to talk.”
“Is it bad?”
“No. We just wanna get our shit back from that asshole.”
“I can show you where he keeps it,” she offers. There’s my girl. I knew she would. I smile and nod my head before pulling her into my arms. I think this is where I like her the best. Wrapped up in me.
