I also think my mom is wrong. Yeah, it fits the story, me not having a voice and the boy not having a leg. But the boy with the prosthetic leg had the dreams. Mom and Pop and everyone else except Max thinks I have them, too.
So what if they’re looking at the wrong thing? I’m not the one who became a changed person, whose life dramatically improved when I was able to reach my full self.
What if it’s not me? What if it’s Max? What if it’s Max who’s left behind?
In whatever the real version of this story, however it plays out in actual real life and not myth, what if Max is the one who gets left out? And what if being left out doesn’t mean what we think it means? What if the whole point of the story got reversed in all those years of telling it?
What if Max is the only one who gets lost?
