Chapter 4
Tania
The next day
When Hawk woke up, yesterday, he convinced Cyn to continue with her fertility surgery today.
So, Ari and I were now bedside after Cyn had a successful procedure.
I personally did not understand why she was having surgery to have kids when her life is perfect as is.
She and Hawk are able to do what they want, when they want, and I feel like kids would hinder the freedom they have.
What neither one of my friends knew was that during my senior year, I got pregnant and had a baby.
I was staying in Atlanta with my aunt Tracy over the summer, and I got pregnant by this knucklehead named Bozo, who I was crazy about.
Bozo was fine, tall, slender, with a big dick, but he wasn’t good for anyone.
He got me pregnant and burned me during my pregnancy after cheating with I don’t know how many bitches.
Instead of going back to D.C. after the summer, I told everyone I was staying in Atlanta to live with my aunt Tracy and go to school there, but in reality, I was pregnant.
My mama was anti-abortion since she said I would go to hell if I killed my baby, so she made me carry the baby full term, and I ended up having a beautiful baby girl with chocolate skin and big doe eyes.
I gave her up for adoption shortly after pushing her out and didn’t think about her much after that.
When I thought about the baby, I wondered how she was doing and where she was, but that only lasted a few seconds at a time.
Truth is, that experience put a sour taste in my mouth about pregnancies and giving birth.
Now I do not want kids nor really understand people who do.
Cyn’s surgery was outpatient, so after they made sure she was good, she was discharged and asked us to take her straight to the hospital to see Hawk. She had one of their guards waiting at the hospital downstairs when we arrived, and he had a wheelchair there to wheel her up.
Where I wanted to go anywhere but the hospital, I didn’t mind seeing Proctor’s fine ass.
Smelling his cologne and the fresh scent of his breath was something that would always unintentionally have me weak in the knees.
Proctor was so tall, I shouldn’t be able to smell his breath from my height, but that minty scent traveled all the way down to my nose and made me quiver every time I was near him.
It was the little shit he did. The way he walked, the deepness of his voice, the way he seemed like he would kill a mutha fucka for looking at him wrong.
The only flaw he had was sleeping with my friend, but she was so anti-Proctor these days, I don’t even see how it was a flaw.
What Ari doesn’t know is, we already shared a man before.
I was fucking with Josiah before she was, but she liked him so much when they connected, I kept it player and let her have him.
He ended up being her problem and her disappointment anyway, so I kept my mouth shut about our time together, and as far as I knew, so did he.
Once we got Cyn up to Hawk’s room, he was sitting up in bed with a bandage going over his left shoulder and across his chest. He didn’t look fucked up at all and was smiling when we walked into his room.
I wasn’t paying much attention to him, however, because Proctor was sitting in the corner, leaning back in his chair with his long ass legs stretched out.
“You good love? Everything went okay?”
Hawk grabbed Cyn’s hand from the side of the bed.
“Of course I’m okay. Are you okay is the more important question?”
“I’m fine, baby, but I’m where I need to be. Why aren’t you at home in bed getting some rest?”
“We tried to tell her she needed to, but she was adamant about coming to see you,” Ari spoke up behind Cyn.
I noticed Ari hadn’t looked Proctor’s way until he spoke up from the corner.
“How are you feeling, daughter in law?”
“I’m okay. A little sore, but I’ll manage.”
“That’s good, but I do agree with your friends. You should rest so you can heal up and make me a grandfather soon. Grandfather, shit sounds crazy as hell.” Proctor laughed as he stood up from his seat.
Proctor walked to Cyn and kissed her on the forehead.
He then locked eyes with Ari for a moment before he turned his attention to say his goodbyes to his son.
I guess he was already getting the vibes she was giving off.
I knew a man like him wouldn’t chase any bitches for too long.
I don’t care how big my friend’s booty is.
Proctor doesn’t seem like the thirsty type.
“I’ll be back up here later, big dog. I need to stop by the club and make sure everything is straight up there before tonight.”
“Bet.” They slapped hands.
“But you think you can see to my wife getting home and in bed first?”
“Baby, he doesn’t have to do that. I have my friends here to help me.”
“Yeah, but they can’t carry you to the bed like I want you to be carried. So, Proc, if you could follow them home and make sure she's straight before you go handle that other shit, I’ll greatly appreciate it nigga.”
“Say no more. I got you.”
Proctor replied, and Cyn didn't argue with that.
Cyn and Hawk said their goodbyes to one another, and she stood up even while being sore to kiss him on his lips.
At first, I must admit their love seemed a little shallow to me, a little rushed and superficial, but the more I’m around them, I can see a connection.
I know for sure Hawk loves her for her because she brought nothing else to the table but looks, and I’m sure there are good looks all around Vegas, starting with that bitch he was with before Cyn.
My friend found a love that many women, including me, longed for.
She gave me hope that it’s never too late to find your prince charming, even if you have to steal him from another bitch.
Ari, Proctor, Cyn, and I left the room, and Proctor pushed Cyn in the wheelchair. Me and Ari walked behind them while Ari was on her phone trying to make herself seem busy. She didn’t have to look at Proctor, because I was staring at him hard enough for the both of us.
Proctor helped Cyn into the car, then jogged across the parking lot to his.
I hopped in the backseat, and Ari took off towards Cyn and Hawk’s penthouse with the help of the GPS because Cyn had drifted to sleep quickly in the front seat.
As we rode down the street, a Range Rover passed us up at a high rate of speed, and I knew it was Proctor.
His crazy ass didn’t seem like he knew how to drive like a normal person and always had somewhere to be.
We pulled into the valet, and Proctor was standing out front, talking to a man in a suit who looked important.
Ari and I got out of the car, and Proctor approached the door to help Cyn, but she was already climbing out on her own.
“You don’t have to carry me, Proctor; I think I can make it to the elevator and up to my room.”
“My son told me to carry you, so that’s what I’m going to do.
” Proctor bent his knees and swooped Cyn up into his arms with ease.
She couldn’t do anything but giggle at his stubbornness, and I did too.
Ari, however, tried her hardest not to laugh.
It was clear as day that Proctor’s not guilty verdict still wasn’t good enough for her.
I remember when I first met Ari. I loved everything about my friend, up until I found out she had those stubborn Scorpio ways.
I will never forget when we went out of town to Atlantic City when I finally turned twenty-one, because I was the baby.
My older sister, Ari, and Cyn piled into my mama’s brand-new car and took off while she was on a cruise, unaware that we had driven her car out of town.
That entire trip, Ari did nothing but complain about where we ate, how much we were spending, all the way down to our sleeping arrangements.
We went to the casinos she wanted to go to, the clubs, and restaurants because she is a picky ass eater.
Instead of her trying to make sure I had a good birthday trip, she was concerned about how she felt, and because I’m a good friend and I love her ass, I just let her make it.
Ari was always fun in between those moments of self-centeredness.
When we reached the penthouse, Proctor sat Cyn down on the couch, and Ari dismissed herself to the room, saying she had a headache.
“Can I get you something to eat, Cyn? Call you up some room service?”
Proctor asked as Cyn leaned back on the couch, making herself comfortable.
“I’m okay and I will pass on the room service. I was telling your son the other week that the cooks must be new in the kitchen because my favorite pasta is just not as good anymore.”
“Well, I can get you something else from somewhere. I’ll go pick it up for you because I don’t fuck with that DoorDash shit. Overpriced, and that shit delivers cold. At least it used to.”
Proctor complained.
“I’m okay. I’ll just eat a can of soup or something light. I’m not really hungry.”
“Alright, but you know my number, and I expect you to use it when you need me. None of that pride shit, Cyn. You need to rest.”
“Okay, I will.”
Cyn smiled at Proctor, and just as he turned to go, something inside of me spoke up because I wasn’t tired of his presence at all.
“Proctor, I’m hungry. I could use something to eat.”
“Something like what?” he replied.
“There’s this place called Joe’s Fish House that I saw on TikTok. I wouldn’t mind Door Dashing, but I saw it’s not on there.”
I used an excuse to leave here with his sexy ass.
“Alright, come on. You not handicap like my daughter in law.”
Proctor walked to the door, and I hopped up behind him on his trail.
We loaded the elevator, and Proctor stood in the corner, looking down at his phone until the elevator stopped, opening the doors to a couple about to walk in.
“It’s full.” He told them, and they looked inside before the man questioned Proctor.
