Dayanara Chapter 18 #3
Zev grimaced. “Yeah, unfortunately, you’re right. I wish I could say you aren’t. Talbot is an acquired taste, and I’ve yet to develop it even after years.”
“Yeah, Scarelli hasn’t either. He told us Talbot is on his last leg with the department. Hang in there, you might get a Christmas present,” Stryder informed Zev.
“Damn, that would be the best gift. I detest it when I have to go out on a call with him. Okay, enough about that loser. I’ll let you get back to your evening. I’ll see you later.”
“Hey, before you run off. Did Raina get a chance to tell you that Bull wants you and Zev Jr. to come for Christmas and New Year’s Eve? Though Jr. will have to go hang out at one of our houses, which isn’t a big deal, when the adult entertainment shows.” Predator stated.
“How old is your son?” Breezy asked.
“He’s sixteen. He thinks he knows everything.
Thanks, she did tell me, and I plan to reach out and tell Bull we accept.
We’d rather spend time with all of you than go to another boring, suffocating family holiday where no one understands us and we’re tense the whole time.
Jr. loves it when we come visit the club. ”
“Great. See you in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait. We’ll let you get back on patrol. Watch your back,” Stalker told him.
There was a round of goodbyes, and then Zev left. With him gone and our appetite sated, we rose and made our way to the door. Suffice it to say, we were the center of attention the whole way. We smiled and laughed the entire time. And yes, I hung on the arms of both of my old men.
???
Not only was dinner amazing last night, despite our run-in with those people, but the alone time with Stalker and Predator was even more so. They’d made love to me until I was exhausted and unable to move. They chuckled, kissed me silly, then cuddled me in the bed between them.
I hated to see them go this morning, but that was normal. I made sure they had something to eat before they did. Once they were gone, I sat down at my laptop. I had to write a resignation letter. It took me a couple of revisions to get it right. When I was done, I read through it.
Mr. Sullivan,
I regret to inform you that I am no longer able to continue my employment with your company. This decision wasn’t made lightly. After long consideration, I realize I have to do what’s best for everyone.
First, thank you for the opportunity you gave me when I was freshly discharged from the Marine Corps. It was a fantastic fit for me and let me use my skill set.
Secondly, I want to thank you for granting me time off to help my sister.
Her situation is a traumatizing one. She needs me at her side.
And it’s that ongoing need that makes me have to resign.
I understand you have a business to run and customers to satisfy.
My need for more time off isn’t something you can grant me.
I regret the need for this, but I know you understand.
I’m available remotely to sign any final paperwork required to complete my separation from the company, including my final paycheck and any accrued but unused vacation time. I wish you and the company ongoing success.
Happy Holidays and New Year.
Regards,
Dayanara Crane.
I was satisfied with it. There was no need to belabor the point.
Or to tell them I found a job with my club family’s security company.
I recalled hearing the name “Salvation Security” in meetings.
They were seen as a competitor that was chipping away at my current employer’s business.
Salvation didn’t do it intentionally or maliciously.
It was due to their stellar reputation and clients choosing to switch to them.
But the urge to tell them was there. However, I chose the professional route.
Hitting send, I got it over with. Then I opened my online banking app.
My automatic payments were on track. I had rent and other bills coming due before the end of the month.
Thinking about my rent, I contemplated what Stalker and Predator had said.
Since we were official, they wanted to start planning a house just for us.
I wasn’t opposed to it, and I’d told them that.
They responded that we’d have to find a plan we all agreed on.
Once we had that, then we’d be able to give it to Tank at AW Construction.
I liked the idea of my cousin having a hand in building our home. He loved his job at AW.
Energized, I searched the internet for building plans.
I had no specific type in mind. I knew I’d recognize it when I saw the exterior and the interior layout.
Another thing my men mentioned was the number of bedrooms they thought we’d need.
They said no less than five. When I countered with why so many, they said it was for our kids and guests, such as Stryder, Breezy, or, possibly in the future, Jess, to stay.
My heart pinged thinking of Jess—still no contact from him.
I tried to text and got no response. I hated the distance between us. We’d always been close.
I became lost in the abundance of house plans. The hours flew by as I reviewed dozens, taking note of the ones I liked most so I could share them with my guys when they got home. I was startled when Breezy returned late afternoon to see it was already three o’clock.
She spent time with Sage and Aspen to help them babysit Ilara and Bear’s kids: Hope, Ryker, and River, plus Tarin and Outlaw’s girl, Melody.
They ranged in age from just over five to seven and a half years old.
Ryker and River were two months older than their niece, Melody.
It kinda blew the mind when you thought about it.
Hope was the oldest, and she bossed the younger three as any good older sister or aunt would.
I rose from the kitchen table and groaned as I stretched out my back. “How did it go?” I asked her.
“It was great. The boys are a little wild, but then I think all boys are. Hope and Melly are dolls, and they helped to entertain the boys. Ilara and Tarin said they completed their shopping. They tried to pay us for our time, but we said no. The club does so much for us. I’d never take anyone’s money.
Aspen and Sage said the same. What have you been up to?
Did you get your resignation letter sent? ”
We were both in the refrigerator, grabbing drinks. I set my drink on the table, then headed to the bathroom. Without missing a beat, she followed and stood outside the door. We’d been talking to each other through closed bathroom doors for years. Hell, sometimes we went in together. I answered her.
“Made sure all my automatic bill paying was set, then I explored house plans online. I lost track of time until you walked in.”
“You did!? Oh, God, did you find any you like?” she asked excitedly.
“There are so many, Breezy. It’s overwhelming, but I have flagged some that I’d like to share with the guys to see what they think. They might have ideas of their own.”
“Can I see them? Or do you want to show Predator and Stalker first? If you do, I understand,” she said.
I opened the door after flushing and washing my hands. I slid my arm through hers. “Let me show you. I think they’re amazing,” I gushed.
And that was how we settled at the table and became lost in house plans.
It was the sound of motorcycle engines that grabbed our attention away from them.
When I glanced at the clock, I gasped. It was four forty-five.
My men were home, and I hadn’t started anything for dinner.
Luckily, I’d pulled out chicken to thaw this morning when I got up.
I rose to my feet and went to greet them at the door.
