Chapter 31

I said yes. My body trembled as Quade slipped the ring onto my finger and lifted me into the air.

I could barely even breathe as I held onto him, still dizzy from walking down the runway.

They were my first steps in front of a crowd in years.

My legs were weak, but they’d carried me all the way to my man.

The cheers still rang out in the air, with Teagan leading the charge.

Of course, she was screaming the loudest as she shoved her way through the crowd to get to me.

“Bitch,” Teagan whisper-shouted as she finally reached me.

“My big sister’s getting married!” She hugged us both, tears running down her face.

“My big sister’s getting married,” she kept saying.

I was laughing and crying at the same time, overwhelmed by all the excitement.

The room was a blur of camera flashes, flowers, and people.

Jess handed me a tissue, and Ron dapped up Quade.

My heart was too full for words. I looked down at my ring, which was a beautiful oval-cut gold band.

Literally my dream ring, and more tears ran down my face.

My man knew me so well, and I loved him so much.

Teagan nudged me, and I glanced up to catch her pointing to Shawn slipping out the side door.

He stared at me for a moment before walking out with his head down.

He looked like his chest hurt, and it should.

He had to watch the girl he left behind level up in every way.

I smirked as I turned back to Quade, my family, and my future.

“I love you,” I whispered. He pulled me close, and his lips brushed my temple.

“I love you more,” he said.

I looked down at my ring. It sparkled like a sunrise. And as I held his hand, wrapped in faith and forever, I realized love didn’t fix my wings. It just gave me somewhere safe to land. And somehow, that was what every pretty little bird really needed.

The End!
