Chapter 19
Grey
The drive to his apartment is silent as I sit in the passenger seat, clutching my bag. Cain's hand is on my thigh. I keep looking at it, keep reminding myself that he's here. That he came for me. That he chose me over Rose, over his career, over everything.
He chose me and said, "let's go home." But the fear is still there, curled in my chest like something alive. She's been watching and she's going to try to hurt us.
"She won't touch you," Cain says, as if he could hear my thoughts. "I won't let her."
"I know."
"Do you?" I turn to him; his jaw is tight, his eyes are fixed on the road.
"I know you'll try, but she's been planning this longer than I have. She has resources and connections. She could ruin you."
"Let her try."
"Cain."
He glances at me. "I'm serious. I don't care about any of it."
"Then what do you care about?"
His hand tightens on my thigh and that’s all the answer I need. We get to his building, his apartment, I drop my bag by the door and turn to face him.
"Cain."
He looks at me and I'm in his arms. Kissing him like I'm drowning, like if I dare let go, he'll disappear. He kisses me back desperately. His hands are in my hair, on my back, pulling me closer.
"I need you," I gasp against his mouth.
"You have me, darling."
"I need to feel you." My hands find his belt. Fumble with the buckle. "To know, to be sure."
He stops me. Hands on my wrists.
"I'm not going anywhere," he says. "She's not going to take me from you. No one is."
He pulls me into another kiss. Harder this time.
His teeth graze my lip. We don't make it to the bedroom.
He pushes me against the wall. His mouth is on my throat, biting down.
I arch into him. My hands are in his hair, mylegs are shaking.
He pulls back, looks at me. Gray eyes match mine in hunger..
"Tell me what you want darling."
"You."
"I know. Tell me how."
"I need to feel you inside me," I manage.
Something flashes in his eyes. "You're sure?"
"Yes, I am."
He doesn't make me wait. He strips me slowly, like I'm something precious, something sacred. I'm shaking not from the cold but from need. His hands find my skin. My chest, my hips, the places where I'm most sensitive.
"You're beautiful," he says.
"I'm not."
"You are." His mouth finds my ear. "You're beautiful, and you're mine, and I'm never letting you go."
He takes me to the bedroom. Lays me out on the bed, his bed, our bed, and looks at me like I'm the only thing in the world. I can’t wait any longer, so I reach for him pulling him down.
"Please," I beg again. "I need to feel you."
He's careful at first, gentle, and patient. Preparing me the way I need. But I don't want careful. I don't want patient. I want to feel him.
"Harder," I moan out.
"I know what you need."
He gives it to me. The first push is overwhelming. The second is divine. By the third, I'm gone. He moves inside me like he belongs there. Like he's always belonged there. Like this is the only place he was ever meant to be. I wrap my legs around him. Pull him deeper.
"Cain."
"I've got you."
His hand finds my cock. Strokes me in time with his thrusts. I'm close. So fucking close.
"Look at me," he says. His eyes are dark. His face is flushed. He's just as lost as I am.
"Come for me," he commands. "I want to watch you."
Crying out his name like a mantra, I let go, shattering; he follows right after. Burying his face in my neck. And then we collapse together, breathless. I lie in his arms, trying to remember how to breathe. His hand is on my chest. Over my heart.
"Still with me?" he asks.
"Yeah." My voice comes out rough and pleased. "I'm still here."
He kisses my forehead.
"Good."
