Chapter 8
Caroline
Caroline Bingley was thrilled to have an earl’s son in residence at Netherfield. He was very handsome, very friendly, very amusing—although, as a second son, she herself had no use for him. But an extra player on the chessboard…created new opportunities.
She was determined to enact either her main plan or her alternate plan, depending on what seemed possible. Tonight!
As she thought through each of her schemes, she decided that, if things went perfectly, she might be able to pull off both plans on the same night. What a coup that would be!
She had been considering how to send her key impressions to a locksmith to craft the keys she needed. But if her plans tonight went well, she would never need to take that step—or spend that money.
Considering how very complex her plans were, and how seamlessly she had executed them, thus far, Caroline felt invincible. She could not possibly fail tonight. One way or the other, or maybe both ways—she would ruin her competition and snag her reward.
