Chapter 10 Wolf Ears Exposed
I reached out and patted his chest. "Calm down. Don't rush."
Xie Ning's wolf ears were showing.
"Did I say something wrong?" I asked. "Why did your beast features suddenly appear?"
My hands kept stroking across his chest.
He looked as if invisible threads had wrapped around him. His eyes went blank.
He didn't push my hand away.
Only when Xuan Ming arrived and had the maid pull me off did he come back to his senses.
"Young Valley Lord!" Xuan Ming sounded pained. "You weren't trying to seduce the Imperial Princess, were you?"
Xie Ning almost laughed from anger. He gritted his teeth. "She started it."
Xuan Ming rubbed his chin. "That's impossible. Did you drug her? Have you learned our Fox Clan's Gu Poison arts too?"
Seeing Xie Ning draw his blade with a cold face, Xuan Ming quickly changed the subject. "What did she just say to you?"
Xie Ning glanced at him and put the blade away. "She asked if I had ever been infected with Gu Poison."
They stared at each other for a moment.
Xuan Ming sighed. "This Imperial Princess... doesn't she know she is the one infected?"
Xie Ning stayed silent.
Xuan Ming had already seen the Gu on me last night. The parasite was not fully grown yet, so it showed no signs.
Xuan Ming was skilled in medicine. I never doubted his words.
"Looks like what Rong Che said was true," Xuan Ming said with a frown. "He really has his eye on your blood."
Rong Che knew the Wolf Clan had an ancestral secret technique. My blood could ease Gu Poison symptoms.
He wanted to make Xie Ning my medicine slave.
Xuan Ming could not understand it. "Killing the mother parasite would be more useful. Why leave the child parasite inside me and only use your blood to ease the pain?"
Xie Ning lowered his eyes to his palm. It looked like he could almost still feel my warmth there.
"I won't do as he wants."
Xie Ning picked up the bamboo hat and set it on his head so I would not see the fleeting hesitation in his eyes.
"He has nothing to offer me anyway."
