Chapter 14 The Disguise
Xie Ning kicked the door shut. "Get lost."
Footsteps faded.
Xie Ning exhaled. "Good. We weren't discovered."
I was still in his arms, dazed.
"Give me the mirror."
A stranger's face stared back.
I touched my cheek.
Xie Ning held the mirror steady. "Xuan Ming used a fox clan disguise technique. His skill isn't perfect, so this is the result."
My eyes grew wet.
Xie Ning tried to comfort me. "Don't be afraid. Yan Zhuo is gone. No one will take you away."
I sniffled, then burst into tears.
"What an ugly face! I don't want to live!"
Xie Ning went silent.
I kept crying quietly.
He stiffened. "Put your clothes on first."
I looked up.
He had turned away, his ears bright red.
A cold breeze hit me and I shivered.
I realized I was only wearing my undergarment when he came in.
My shoulder was bare.
"Xie Ning!"
Now I was the one blushing.
I tried to tie my sash but only made it worse.
There was no one else in the room.
I panicked, my face burning.
A shadow fell over me.
Xie Ning pressed his lips together and turned me around.
He leaned down and untied the tangled sash with careful hands.
The room stayed quiet.
I held my skirt and muttered, "Next time, tell me before you make me ugly."
"I understand."
He touched his nose, sounding awkward.
"Actually... you look good no matter what."
