23. Anna
CHAPTER 23
Anna
I was glad we left. Party life and bar life were not for me and Emma. We gave it the good old college try and that was enough. I was anxious to get home and read to take my mind off a certain professor who seemed to infiltrate my thoughts at all times.
“Shit,” Chase cursed from the driver's seat. He’d picked us up after spending a late evening at his office grading papers.
“What is it, sweetie?” Emma asked, her nose stuck in her phone as he whipped a U-turn.
“I left something on campus.” He sped back towards the buildings. The university came into view over the skyline. “I’d wait until Monday but I've really gotta finish this shit.” He cursed again, annoyed at the backtracking.
Emma consoled him by patting his leg as he drove. His shoulders dropped at her touch, relaxing into her. Not jealous, not jealous, not jealous. I averted my gaze, not wanting to see their little intimate moments knowing I had none of my own.
Okay, fine. I was like a hair jealous. But that’s it.
He pulled into the faculty garage parking and got out. “You two can stay in here. I’ll be quick. ”
Emma caught his sleeve. “No wait,” she opened her door looking back at me, “we can go with you.” Her gaze flicked to the door handle then back to my eyes implying she wanted me to get out of the car. “Right, Anna?”
“Yeah.” I guess going for one more quick walk wouldn’t be the worst. “Coming.” I said as I stepped out of the warm interior. My face stung as I tightened my coat around me.
God, was I ready to go home.
The walk to the building felt much longer in the cold. City life buzzed around us. Our new home was so different, yet so similar to Pittsburgh. Homesickness cascaded around me in an unwanted wave.
The dark buildings surrounded us. Only a few windows were lit with lights as faculty worked late hours at the height of the new semester. My eyes traveled to Hawking Hall where my chemistry class took place. The building loomed in the shadows completely dark, daring me to come nearer. I ripped my gaze away refusing to relive the memories of what happened in that classroom.
Chase’s building was right next to it. His office, though temporary, had the perfect view of Hawking Hall. Silently, I followed as Emma and Chase made small talk. I tuned their voices out wondering what Reign was doing. Wondering if he was thinking about me.
“Are you coming?” Emma’s voice pulled me from my reverie. I’d stopped walking just at the entrance to stare at the chemistry building. “You okay?” She cocked her head to the side.
“Yeah,” I lied. “Fine. I’m just gonna wait out here.” I stumbled through the excuse. “I need some fresh air after being at that stuffy party.”
Emma’s eyes followed where mine inadvertently flicked back to. “Hmm,” she narrowed her focus on me. “Whatever you say.” She turned back to Chase, who was in the doorway tapping his foot and looking at his watch. “We won’t be long.”
I watched her disappear with her impatient fiancé before going over to the chemistry building that lured me into its ominous aura. I gazed up at all the floors that were shrouded in darkness. It was almost difficult to recognize Hawking Hall without the classrooms illuminating it.
A howling sound caressed the night as the wind whipped, adding to the eerie feeling I was getting. Suddenly, heat radiated through my body despite the biting cold. My fingers gripped my coat around me protectively. The building seemed to grow impossibly darker as if it knew I was watching it.
A scuffing sound caught my attention.
I whipped around, taking in my surroundings. My heart lodged in my throat as my panting breaths floated in the air around me, attempting to locate the noise. Nothing but murky shadows surrounded me. My eyes couldn’t pinpoint a single other being around me.
You’re freaking losing it, Anna.
I turned back to Hawking Hall with pins and needles running through my limbs. My muscles screamed at me to run as fight or flight kicked in.
Breath whispered across the back of my neck. My eyes widened as I felt the warmth of another vessel behind me, powerful hands slapped over my mouth. Blocking my airways, the muffled screams only suffocated me.
“No, no, little vixen,” a voice growled from behind me. With one hand still tightly adhered to my mouth, the freed arm snaked around my waist, pulling me against a strong body. “Don’t you dare scream, or I’ll make it hurt more.”
My legs gave out under me. The man behind me held my weight up as he dragged me towards the building. I was powerless in his grip, frozen as fear shot through my bloodstream. An iron smell permeated my senses as the click of a lock and key sounded.
Hawking Hall was sinfully dark as the slamming of the door echoed in the shadows.
“We’re going to play a little game,” his voice rasped in my ear. My eyes focused in the dark that bathed our bodies. “Don’t be afraid,” his timbre dropped an octave. His voice was a seductive melody I could never forget. “What I have planned for you is going to wound you in the most delicious way, my sweet vixen.”
“Reign,” my voice was a tiny whisper only carried to his ears through the stale air that suffocated me. “What’re you going to do to me?” I wasn’t sure I could handle the answer.
Arousal flooded the depths of my being. Igniting a hot need in me that only he could satisfy. My body was fucking sick.
“What I’ve got planned for you,” he spoke slowly, hands tracing my skin. Tightening around my neck, his fingers memorized my shape. An intoxicating wave of heat engulfed my entire being as he delicately explored my form. My nipples puckered as his palm skimmed over them through my clothing. Shedding my coat, he tossed the attire to the floor. “Will leave you soaking and stunned. Worshipping me on your knees, where you belong.”
My throat clenched with my pussy, my saliva thickening at his words. I gulped down the viscous, coating sensation.
Reign was done waiting.
