45. Anna
CHAPTER 45
Anna
T he space between my legs howled in pain. Moonlight cast shadows of the night across Reign’s apartment as I lay in his arms, catching my breath. I never knew a man could fuck me like that. I never knew my body was made to take him that many times. Every time my thighs moved, my pussy protested.
Reign was truly unquenchable. His thirst for me seemed to grow with each passing day. The feeling of my pussy not being filled with his cock was starting to feel unfamiliar. I grew used to having him shoved inside me at any given moment. Cum coating my pussy lips and inner thighs was a feeling I’d grown accustomed to.
His chest rose and fell with each peaceful breath as I traced our names in cursive down the toned abs. Each peak and valley of muscles clenched slightly under the brush of my fingers. I nuzzled into his neck, placing kisses on the thin skin. Feeling the steady beat of his pulse under my lips.
Loving him.
“Reign.” His name was delicious poison on my lips .
“Hmm?” Sleep laced his voice, making him sound raspy. Sexy.
“You never told me why you,” I swallowed thickly. “Killed your sister.”
“Ah, that wench,” he groaned. “I did, though. I told you, she was going to turn me in.” He threw his forearm over his eyes.
“True, you did.” I swirled my pointer finger around his toned pecs, watching his nipple harden at my touch. “But you never told me what she was gonna turn you in for.”
“It’s a tale as old as time,” he grumbled, dismissing me.
“Come on,” I chastised. “If you love me you’d tell me.” Sure that was a bit manipulative, but a girl wanted to know.
His sigh weighed a thousand pounds. “You’re really gonna pull that card with me?” He sat up and leaned against the headboard, taking me in his arms. My head pressed against his chest, and the powerful thump of his heart lulled me into paradise. “Saying no to you isn’t in my chemical makeup.”
“You treat me like fine China,” I whispered. “Even after witnessing it,” I snuggled closer into him, marveling at his heartbeat. “I can’t imagine you being violent impulsively.”
“That’s because I love you, my sweet girl.” His voice was hushed. The words were meant for just us alone; not even God was welcomed in our conversation. “A love that’s fierce and protective of you. Potent like the strongest chemical ready to liquefy anyone who threatens you harm.”
I nodded against his warm skin.
“Raina was my older sister. She was kind. She was smart.” He began, “But she was naive. We were both conceived by a monster of a man. Born into horrific adversity. A creature so devious that he hid in plain sight for years, only to be found out by his own offspring.”
“Sounds a lot like my father,” I mumbled, resonating with his feelings .
“He was a terrible man. Disgusting even.” He let out a small chuckle. “And that’s coming from me.” Reign swiped a hand down his face before continuing. “He was a reprehensible person, who sought pleasure through the pain of others. It didn’t matter who he pulverized in his path as long as he was satisfied.”
My heart picked up, unsure of where this was going.
“Raina was the one and only light in his life that his darkness refused to condemn. She didn’t see the evils of his ways. She didn’t hear their cries, see their terror-stricken faces as they broke out of his grip only to be dragged back to hell, meeting the one who’d take everything from them.” The tone grew sinister, “My father was a piece of shit. Raping and killing handfuls of women and girls.” Disgust wielded its way through his words. “The final straw,” he took a deep breath. “Was when he tried to kill me too.”
The breath I was holding caught in my throat. As if life was being choked out of me, it lodged there unmoving. “He wanted you dead?”
“Yes.”
The one word solidified that we truly never knew anyone. Even our own family.
“That night, he crept into my bedroom with repulsive intent.” His breath skimmed across the shell of my ear. “He hated that I despised him and refused to carry on the sick tradition that was passed down by my grandfather and generations before.” He shook under the weight of my body. “He’d already driven my mother to suicide at that point, I refused to allow him to wipe me from this world as well. What would’ve happened to Raina then?” He pondered out loud.
I knew where this was going. Every nerve ending mourned for the childhoods that were stolen from both Reign and myself. My soul lamented for the heartbreak we faced. Only finding solace only in the fact that those painful paths led us to each other.
“So you killed him?”
“Sure did.” The smile in his voice was evident. “I have no regrets to this day. If anything, I wish I could've been the one to eradicate the entire debauched family tree.” His voice dropped an octave. “That night, I felt his heart stop beating in my own hands as I tore it from his chest cavity.”
A cold chill ran down my spine.
“I don’t understand,” I whispered. “How does this correlate to you killing your own sister if you did that to protect her?” Confusion wracked my bones. It was beyond my ability to fathom.
His actions perplexed me, and his responses only left me with more questions. The lines of right and wrong were blurry at best, and I wanted to understand more than I wanted to fear him. Untreated trauma could truly affect a person. Did Reign really think his only option was to cleanse his bloodline by wiping it from the earth?
“Sweet vixen.” He lavished my skin with gentle touches. His fingers danced across my back, leaving trails of love everywhere they touched, igniting a warm glow within me. “You’ll soon come to learn that people only see what they want in others. No matter how skewed the image.”
“But,” the words nearly died off my tongue. “That would mean we’re all just strangers. Even to those closest to us.”
“True connection,” his whisper caressed me, “can be such an illusion.”
“It’s like chasing a dream.” Perturbation rippled through my veins. “What if the illusion is better than reality?”
He cuddled me closer. I felt his body move as he nodded in agreement. “And that, my naive little vixen,” he said, kissing the top of my head. “Is what makes love truly terrifying.”
