Chapter 10 #3
She’s right. It’s not something I’d even think of. I owe too much to Bullseye and the rest of the crew. I swore my loyalty to my patch. Leaving them is something I could never do.
My face gives her the answer.
Footsteps sound from overhead, a warning Ace is returning. Hurriedly, she says, “I’m glad you came, Freak. I’m glad you’re staying. It will be a good chance for us to get to know each other without it being a relationship based on sex.”
“Dad, my room’s amazing. There are loads of books—”
“I am a librarian,” Toni interrupts with a light-hearted laugh.
“I thought you’d like a selection to choose from.
” She moves nearer to him and links her arm with his, leading him toward what I can see is a kitchen.
“Now, while I get some drinks, tell me what you’ve been doing since I last saw you. How was school?”
As my son starts talking to her animatedly, I stand in the middle of the living room, feeling like a spare part.
Now I’ve got to spend two whole days with her, and not even get a chance to slide into that delicious pussy.
I’m going to get a bad case of blue balls for sure.
For a moment, I feel anger, then I tamp that down.
Maybe she’s right. Perhaps some time getting to know each other with sex off the table will make for a deeper connection in the end. Though I do see myself spending a lot of time in her shower. I can only hope she doesn’t start wearing her glasses…
Toni orders in pizza. While we’re waiting, I sit back with a beer she’d offered me, and watch as she and my son engage in a lively conversation, just letting the murmur of their voices wash over me.
For a moment, I wonder whether this is what I’d have had if Josie had paid strict attention to her meds.
Then realise that, while their looks are so similar, the two women are incomparable – maybe due to the way they were brought up in different environments and with different parental figures.
I muse that Toni had probably been far better off with her dad.
Though perhaps that was being unfair to Kelly.
She’d tried her best. It wasn’t her fault the twin that she’d chosen had medical issues.
Coming to the conclusion that what I’d felt for Josie could never have been long-term, to get myself out of my head, I take advantage of the break in conversation and ask Toni about her job. Seems only fair, as all the talk so far has revolved around Ace.
In answer, she shrugs. “It’s always hard to get back into a routine after having a week off. But it’s been okay, I guess. And I do enjoy my work.”
Pizza arrives, we eat. I down a couple more beers, then glancing at the clock on the wall, I see it’s already eleven, and it's time for Ace to go to bed. Not that I bother too much about bedtimes, especially at weekends. But it would give me and Toni a chance to talk one-on-one and maybe do more. Despite my hopes that she wouldn’t, at some point during the evening she’d disappeared, and when she’d returned she’d swapped out her contact lenses for those fucking glasses. Since then, I’ve been half hard.
Ace yawning gives me the opening I need. “Time for bed, kid.”
I’d forgotten to take into account Ace’s level of intelligence.
Instead of protesting and trying every excuse in the book to draw it out, he glances between me and his aunt, then gets up without any complaint.
“I’ll see you both in the morning.” Going toward Toni, he gives her a hug and a kiss on her cheek, waggles his fingers toward me, then makes his way up the stairs.
“He’s a good kid,” she says, after he disappears from sight. But then, instead of settling back, she picks up her empty glass, which had earlier been filled with wine, and the tumbler that had contained Ace’s soda, and stands. “Can I get you anything else before I go up?”
My brow furrows. “I thought we could talk.”
“We’ve got all weekend to do that.”
The temperature in the room seems to have dropped, or is that my imagination? I also get to my feet and follow her into the kitchen, where she rinses the glasses before placing them in the dishwasher.
I move in behind her, making her squeak as she turns around, surprised to find me so close. “Have I done something wrong? Or are you having second thoughts?” Standing this close to her, I can’t help reaching out my hand and twirling some of her blonde hair around my fingers.
Her face softens, and she lifts her hand and places it against my cheek.
Some of my tension retreats as I lean into her palm.
“I’ve had a tiring week, Freak. There was a heap of new inventory to sort and catalogue, and a lot of rearranging as the staff hadn’t coped well with my absence.
They had gotten lazy putting books back in the right place.
The computer system had a glitch, and…” her voice trails off.
She gives a weak grin. “You don’t need to know all the details. ”
Like a sop, I respond, “Just like hearing your voice.”
She moves nearer, and now I can fold her into my arms. Finally, my muscles relax, well, all except one part of my body. I shift my stance so as not to make it so obvious to her.
“I know you don’t want to do anything while Ace is in the house, but I need your mouth, Toni.” Even I don’t recognise the breathlessness in my voice.
Rising on tiptoe, she offers me her lips.
Not hesitating, I accept the invitation, sweeping my tongue inside her mouth.
She’s soft, pliant. She tastes of red wine and smells just like I remember.
She’s giving, not just taking, as her tongue teases mine.
When she sighs, all my senses are flooded with her, and I feel a rush of serotonin enhancing my pleasure.
It’s a gentler kiss than the one we’d shared back in my room at the clubhouse, but sensual and meaningful despite that.
My dick’s fully erect now, but I want to prove myself. She’s said sex is off the table tonight, and I’ll respect that, even if it kills me. I’ll show her I can be trusted. So instead of letting my hands roam to her erogenous zones, I content myself with just smoothing them over her back.
I start to put everything in that kiss, all the emotions I’ve held back from telling her, all my wants and desires to see if we can develop what we have between us into something more.
I’m just getting into it when she pulls back, raising her mouth to cover a wide yawn.
I can be a gentleman. “Go to bed, darlin’. I’ll see you in the morning.” I release the hold I have on her.
A slow nod, then she lets her hands drop from my arms. “Thank you for not putting pressure on me.”
I kiss her forehead. “Then you’d better go before I change my mind.” Chuckling softly, I add, “That kitchen worktop looks just the right height…”
She offers a small smile, then she pushes me away. “Goodnight, Freak.”
As she leaves the room, it’s on the echo of my own whisper. “Goodnight.”
