Lakelyn Chapter 6

I was still pissed at Tyrant’s highhandedness.

Who was he to insist we tell him our secrets?

And to hold us prisoner until we did? Yesterday morning, after he divided River and me up, I thought I’d get a respite from him when he went to work.

Sure, I had no doubt there would be a guard outside the door, but it would be better than looking at Tyrant’s face.

I didn’t want to for two reasons, but I denied one of them.

Instead, the infuriating man stayed home and worked from his home office.

I tried to sneak out the door, thinking no guard would be there with him in the house.

Wrong. Tyrant smirked when I was led back inside.

I flipped him off. Though I should have been terrified of him, I wasn’t for some reason. It didn’t make sense.

Last night, Tyrant didn’t take me to the clubhouse to eat.

Instead, he ordered pizza after he met with his men, which he called going to sanctuary.

I planned to refuse to eat it, even though it had been so long since I had had any pizza, and I loved it.

However, I changed my mind when the door opened, and Cobra and my brother walked in.

I was relieved to see him. I hugged River as if it had been a year since we had seen each other.

I was used to us being together constantly.

Tyrant had told us to eat after letting them in.

The pizza had arrived just a couple of minutes before.

Drax brought it to the house. I did. Starving myself wouldn’t help me escape unless I wanted to die, and that was the last thing I wanted.

I needed to keep my strength up so that when the chance came to leave, I could take it.

There was no way for me to tell River my plan, since they never left us alone with each other.

Even if I might not wholly distrust Tyrant and his guys, we couldn’t stay and endanger them.

Afterward, River and the VP stayed and talked for a while, then left.

I’d been nervous about what would happen at bedtime, but it was for nothing.

Tyrant showed me to an extra bedroom. It was stocked and ready for me.

I had my old clothes back, along with some outfits that covered me more.

They fit and looked brand new. I wondered who had let me borrow them.

I’d have to ask in the morning. After another fabulous bath, I slept like the dead despite my situation.

This morning was a repeat of yesterday, and we ate at the clubhouse.

I wanted to ask if the women cooked for them every day, for all meals, or what.

However, I kept my mouth shut. River and I got to see each other again.

He said he was being treated well. I assured him I was unharmed.

Again, no chance for a private conversation.

It was evening again. I was bored. Other than watching television, there wasn’t anything to do.

I was thinking of going to bed early and just lying there.

Tyrant had been in and out all day, and my ever-present shadow was never far away.

So far, it had been Knife and Drax who had done it.

I felt sorry for them being assigned such a boring duty.

Tyrant walked into the house. I was seated on the couch, staring sightlessly at a movie on the television. I couldn’t tell you its name or what it was about. I figured he would give me his now-standard three-word conversation, then disappear. I was wrong. He came to stand by me. I stared up at him.

“Need you to change and get ready. You’ve got half an hour,” he muttered. That’s when I noticed a bag in his hand. He handed it to me.

“What’s that? And get ready for what?”

“You’ll see. I’m getting you out of the house. And before you argue and tell me you won’t go, River will be there.”

The bastard knew I would never miss the chance to see my brother.

I snatched the bag out of his hand. I didn’t bother to look in it.

Whatever it was, I’d deal with it in private.

He smirked. I walked off before I slapped that look off his face.

It pissed me off, but it also made my whole body perk up.

I locked myself in my bedroom and dumped the bag’s contents on the bed.

I gasped. Inside were clothing, shoes, and what appeared to be makeup.

I gulped. Oh my God, what did this mean?

I slowly picked up the jumbled clothing.

It was an unexpected peach color. When I shook it out, I found it was a dress.

It was short, but not something so short my ass would hang out.

It was lovely and feminine without being slutty.

There was a set of lingerie in the same color.

Underneath the dress was a pair of cute sandals in my size.

I wondered which slut had these. They were beautiful and something I had no problem wearing.

Just as I thought that, I found the price tag on the dress.

Wait. It was brand new. Then I saw tags on the underwear, bra, and shoes.

With shaking hands, I sorted through the makeup.

There weren’t a lot, but they were the necessities in my book, in the colors and brands I would use.

In fact, the brands were higher-end than what I had ever bought.

A thrill went through me even though I shouldn’t accept any of it.

The desire to feel pretty again overrode it.

I rushed to the bathroom. The clock was ticking.

I knew Tyrant meant thirty minutes, and he’d be at my door as soon as it was up.

Thankfully, I had washed my hair last night and showered this morning.
