Chapter 41
CHAPTER FORTY-ONE
Titus tightly gripped Leo’s collar and searched for his leash. He spotted it hanging over the fence and quickly snapped it on before rushing back to his truck, chastising himself the entire way. Damn, this was on him. He should have been more careful and kept Emelia close by instead of assuming she’d be safe because she was around other people.
Titus got into his truck and struggled for a moment to collect himself. His whole body felt like a demon possessed it. His stomach churned with fear and anger, and he wanted to punch someone. It didn’t help that Leo thought they’d be going on some sort of grand adventure and kept licking him. He dialed Emelia’s phone again. No answer.
As he drove to the campus, he called Chase and explained to him what’d happened. Chase said he’d put out a call to everyone who was available to meet ASAP.
The drive to the campus took too long. The parking lot was full. Crap. Melissa was teaching a class. He saw Zach walking over from his cabin and waited for him. Zach gave him a comforting pat on the back and looked at him with worried eyes.
“I’m sorry, bro. You have to believe we’ll find them,” said Zach as he kneeled down to rub Leo’s head.
Titus let out a heavy sigh. “We better. I don’t know what I’ll do without her.”
“Why don’t you leave Leo with Melissa so you don’t worry about him,” Zach said. “She has an assistant in class today, so he won’t interfere with the lessons.”
That was a good idea. Titus didn’t know what he’d do with Leo otherwise. The pup was too energetic to stay in one place.
Later, he’d ask Vanessa if she could take Leo until they found Emelia—praying it wouldn’t be long.
Where could Emelia have gone? Did she go with Stacy somewhere? Was she forced to?
No, dumbass. Titus pushed that thought away. Knowing there was a stalker, Emelia wouldn’t go anywhere willingly. So, she had to have been forced. But by whom?
Thankfully, Melissa was more than happy to take Leo. Titus and Zach made their way to Chase’s office and closed the door. A door from his office led straight to command central. There were too many people around today to use the library entrance.
Chase was there, along with Finn and Colt.
“Ryker and Ford are on their way,” Chase said.
They watched Colt pull down the screen on the wall so they could all see what he had.
No one said much. The silence was almost overbearing. Most of them had similar instances where their loved ones were in danger. Saying “we’ll find her” or “she’ll be okay” was pointless. No one could predict what a crazy would do. Maybe they couldn’t predict what someone else would do, but Titus knew without a doubt he was going to beat the shit out of whoever touched Emelia.
