“ H ow quick can we get results on the coffee and empty bottle?” I asked as I followed the detective out of the cabin. “We need to find her. Now.”

The detective grimaced and paused, looking everywhere other than me. “Not soon enough to be useful.”

I gripped his shoulder and spun him around to face me. “We find her. Now.”

He shrugged out of my hold. “Unless you implanted some tracking device in her, we have nothing to go on at this point. I’ll check the coffee shop where?—”

“Fuck me!” I smacked a sweaty palm against my forehead. Struggling to stay calm, I dropped the phone to the ground twice before I could dial Peters’s number. “Peters. Mathews. Get me Alta’s parents’ information. Now. All their numbers.”

I hung up without waiting for a reply. No time for words. No time for anything. The clock was ticking on finding my Lady in one piece.

The phone vibrated in my hand, the screen showing an unknown number.

“Mathews,” I practically yelled into the mouthpiece.

“Sir. We got the results back on the blood sample from the dog's mouth. She was in the system, so we have?—”

My mouth fell open in shock. “Wait. Did you say she ?”

“Yes, sir. Rose Bense. She has a record, plus a sealed juvie record. Lots of stalking, some minor violence stuff. Recently she did a long-term stint in a mental facility for disfiguring a man’s wife.”

“Name doesn’t sound familiar. Send me a picture.”

After I ended the call, I stared at the blank screen.

Fuck, all this time, Alta was right. It was a team, a man and a woman. Fucking hell.

Rose Bense.

Now we had a name, but what did all this have to do with Alta?
