He gave up on his game quickly, opening it for me. “Act up again, and I’ll leave you out there,” he teased. “Grab the gun on the counter this time, and put it on the bed side table.”
“You’re not making me sleep on the couch?” I asked, putting my glass in the sink. “I’m your guest, I don’t mind.”
“Didn’t you just beg to watch me shower because you were too scared to be by yourself?”
“Fair enough,” I said. He was right. Within an hour I’d be knocking at his bedroom door, shaking like a leaf.
I washed our glasses and my hands before grabbing the gun off the counter.
Elias was already in bed by the time I entered the room, so there was no need to guess which side of the bed was off limits. As he wished, I put the gun down on the table and slid under the covers. The bed was large enough to where we wouldn’t even touch by accident.
“What time is it?” I asked, tapping his shoulder.
He rolled to his back, checking his watch. “Not too late. It’s just past ten.”
“Thank you, by the way,” I said, my voice near a whisper. “Just for everything.”
He brought his arm up to rest under his head, unaware of the effect this simple action had on me. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”
I hadn’t lied when I told Elias that I was feeling brave. A God was laid out before me, and I would’ve been an idiot to ignore it. So I didn’t.
I shimmied closer to him, taking longer than I did in my head thanks to his king size bed. He’d done me a favor by not laying on the edge, but I still had a lot of ground to cover.
Elias rolled the rest of the way over to face me. I didn’t give him a chance to speak or to act first, my hand reaching over to grab the side of his face to pull him to me.
It wasn’t like my drunken attack on him months ago, forceful and messy. I kissed him softly, my hand resting on his cheek, his stubble scratching my hand. His dark hair had grown since his shave this morning.
He responded in kind, kissing me lazily, like there was plenty of time in the world. Like we weren’t on to the next great adventure when the sun rose. Here in the darkness, we could just be.
Despite being told to be good, being told to let him sleep, I couldn’t help myself.
Whether it was the whiskey or the smell of him fresh out of the shower, I wasn’t sure.
The cigarette mixed with the liquor on his breath, and I was dazed, completely under his spell.
Memories of the way his mouth had felt on mine had lingered in my mind for months, and I’d been too chickenshit to try again.
The arm under his head snaked around me, his hand flat on my back, and pulled me closer.
Lips busy against mine, his hands explored my back, tracing the curves of my waist, my hips.
My hands acted of their own accord, moving from his face to his arms, tracing his veins and defined muscle.
He flexed for me, smiling into the kiss.
A moan escaped my lips as I gripped his bicep and his tongue ran across my lower lip. “Is that all it takes for you?” He whispered against my mouth.
It was easy to ignore the question, hooking my leg around him, forcing us even closer. I ground into him, his hand sliding down my bottom to help me out.
The room was silent. No police sirens, no neighbors yelling next door. The soundtrack to this moment was our breath and the ruffle of his sheets.
A hand sneaked under my shirt to grab my breast, and a thumb dragged over my nipple. I gasped, my head leaning back to expose my neck. Elias took it as an invitation and his mouth slid to my neck where he made slow circles with his tongue.
I was frenzied now, aching for him, and my hands found his waist band, fingers sneaking under the elastic. He bit down lightly on my neck, and I grabbed him in my hands.
“Almost thirty-nine hours now,” he said. “We can’t do this tonight.”
“I hate you,” I muttered, pulling my hands from his pants.
“I hate myself even more for getting carried away there. But I need time we don’t have. A few hours, at least,” he said, kissing me softly once more. I shuddered under his touch. “I need to sleep.”
“There’s no way I can sleep this, um, worked up. Also, you lied about not being able to get hard,” I said, remembering where my hands had only been a minute ago.
“That’s only half, baby. I’m a dead man walking.”
I moved the hair out of his face to look at him once more. A half smile and glistening eyes told me to roll over, but I couldn’t resist kissing him once more before I did.
While it was painful, his comment about needing more time made my heart race. I could stay here indefinitely in his bed. I certainly wasn’t returning to my own home any time soon.
My back now to him, he pulled me in tight, placing a few kisses along my neck.
“To be continued,” he whispered into my ear.
I shivered, and felt his smile as he placed a final kiss on my jaw.
I felt him behind me, his “half” erection apparent, and closed my eyes.
Sleep did not come easy for me, but I soon heard Elias’s steady breathing, and knew that after his very long day, he was finally asleep.
