Chapter 31
LOGAN
I get an assist on our lone goal, and a lecture on the flight home.
But I don’t give a fuck, because the five hour flight is almost enough time to finish reading The Mist At Dawn’s Edge.
Just before we land, I get a text message from Frankie. Seeing her name on the screen lights me up inside, easing the frustration and exhaustion, replacing them both with a warm joy.
I angle myself to lean against the window so nobody can see my screen.
Frankie
Woke up in the middle of the night and realized you weren’t in the same state as me anymore
Frankie
Insert sad but brave face
Logan
Only counts if you actually send a sad but brave selfie
She follows up with a sexy as fuck photo taken in her bed, with the lamp on, her sheets rumbled and her eyes closed.
But she’s smiling.
Very brave indeed.
Logan
Miss that bed
Miss that face
Miss my wife
Frankie
You have to send a picture back
I take a quick one, illuminated by the narrow overhead light. It’s moody and not my best angle, but I send it anyway.
Logan
We’re going to land soon
Logan
Be a good girl for me and go back to sleep
Frankie
But we’re both awake right now and I miss you
Logan
I’m listening to The Mist at Dawn’s Edge. Seb just killed the quisling fae and has Fallon on the back of his beast right now. What are the chances I’m going to be asleep in an hour?
Frankie
OMG zero chances, I hope you don’t have to skate tomorrow
Logan
Day off, so I’m going to listen to the rest of this book, and when you wake up, I’ll probably be all fired up and want to protect you something fierce
Frankie
my badass assassin
Logan
That’s right, I’m yours, now go to sleep
Frankie
Talk to you soon!!!
Those three exclamation marks make up for everything else.
