Chapter 27

Isat on the Las Vegas Monorail among dozens of tourists, elevator music playing in my ears. It was actual, real elevator music, which was very relaxing. Relaxing was what I needed right now. I loved sitting on this rail, going backward and forward as much as I wanted.

I could get a day pass but I hadn’t. I’d taken three rides so far, and each had been charged as a single ride. Last time, they’d locked the card for suspicious activity, so this time I’d brought three backups. All under Knight’s name.

Fucking prick was gonna get one hell of a bill. The full ride only took fifteen minutes, and I’d be doing this until I felt better. How fucking dare Knight tell Glade my shit.

He had no right, and now she was more likely to panic.

That wasn’t why I’d left, though.

I needed time to prepare. I needed time to come up with a good enough mask so that she wasn’t scared when I finally brought it up to her. I had to find a way to play it off, to make it not that bad.

I paused, feeling a little flare from the bond. I narrowed my eyes, tugging an earbud from my ear and peeking into it as the elevator music faded.

Oh.

There was a legit tornado going on in there—a complete mess.

Was Zed…?

Uh… Both of them?

Ha.

I grinned. Fucking idiots.

Glade was about to get one hell of a treat.

Hmm… this was a good thing.

Definitely.

I put my earbuds back in, letting the elevator music soothe my anxiety as I locked the bond back down.

The rail ran until the early hours of the morning. By the time I got back, they’d all be one happy family.
