Chapter 20
SAMAIRA
O ne moment, my mind was filled with visceral, burning rage and a need to destroy everything.
In the next, Dominic was screaming his heart out at me while patching me up and blowing softly on my wound, worrying about me, and looking so, so cute, and so devilishly handsome with a severe frown on his face.
I couldn’t stop myself from grabbing him and shutting him up with a kiss.
For the first time, someone had managed to cool down my wrath merely by shouting at me, taking charge, and just fussing over me. I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed being fussed at, to be cared for.
I snuggled closer against his warm chest, feeling his heartbeat, his huge hands moving up and down my back.
I’d just come on his cock, simply by the way he talked about what he’d like to do to me, and God, how much I needed what he was offering.
How much I craved for it, how my mind yearned for it.
I’d never found a person I trusted enough to let go of control, had never found a man whom I respected and craved with an intensity that took my breath away.
But Dominic had managed to push me to the peak and made me feel alive, merely by his words.
And here I was, cozying up in his arms as if he were my boyfriend.
I quickly pulled back, reminding myself that he was my client, a client whose life was in danger, whom I was going to protect.
But Dominic, being Dominic, glared at me for pulling away. “What do you think you’re doing?”
My throat dried as I met his eyes. “Umm…The girls will be here soon. And we should check on that guy.”
“Sophie and Kai have it under control, and we’ll leave once the girls are here. You’re staying right here in my arms.” With that, he dragged me back against his chest, his arms wrapping around me.
I breathed in him, and he smelled like aged whiskey and sandalwood, like a cozy night under a warm blanket in front of the fireplace. I bit my lip as I tried to pull back and put some walls around my heart. “I think we made a mistake.”
His chest rumbled as he pulled me even closer into his embrace, running his hand through my hair. “Stop thinking. You fucked up. You saved my life. You almost took a bullet for me. Clearly, you like me.”
I was about to refute, but he continued over my sound of protest. “Hush now, baby. I like you too. You sealed our fates by putting your life on the line for me. Now, you’re stuck with me forever.”
I pulled away from his chest and looked at him.
His eyes burned with determination, as if he’d already made up his mind and there was no arguing with him.
But he lived in a land of dreams where he wasn’t a billionaire with a public profile, and I wasn’t a vigilante who had killed over a hundred men.
I was about to bring him to his senses when a loud commotion in the hallway had me turning toward the noise.
Dominic did not move an inch as the noise descended closer and closer. I glared at him, warning him to move away before the girls caught us in a compromised position. He simply kissed me and bit my lip. “I’m done pretending I’m not obsessed with you.”
The door to the medic room slammed open with all four ladies rushing in and immediately halting at the sight of Dominic between my legs.
Dominic, the bossy asshole, simply turned to them with his hand around my waist and a soft smile on his face. “Ladies, thank you for rushing out here.”
Without giving them the time to process, he continued, “Naomi, I believe Samaira must’ve skipped out on mentioning that the bullet grazed her arm.” He stopped to glare at me and hear the gasps from my friends. “I’ve tried to patch up the wound, but I would really like for you to look at her.”
Naomi raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms over her chest. “Dominic Park, you’d have to get out from between her legs for me to take a look at her.”
His lips curled in a smile at that. “You’d have to ask Samaira to unwrap her legs from my waist first. Although I’d be happy to stand here all day.”
My eyes widened in horror. I didn’t even realize I was still clinging to him like a fucking possessive monkey. Immediately, I pulled apart my legs, letting go of Dominic as Sloane cheered loudly, bouncing on her toes. “Tell us you banged on Naomi’s operating table.”
Naomi’s eyes narrowed at the two of us. “Tell us you didn’t.”
Dominic chuckled. “We’re fully clothed.”
Her gaze softened as she noted my banged-up arm. “Everybody except Sami, out.” Dominic unashamedly dropped a kiss on my forehead and murmured so only I could hear, “Be good.”
Puddle . My heart was in a puddle.
Once everyone shuffled out of the room, Naomi came to stand by me, a teasing smile on her face.
“He’s so smitten with you, Sami.” She opened the bandage carefully and whistled.
“And not so bad at patching you up. But it’s a slightly deeper flesh wound than what I’d like.
So we’re gonna have to glue this together. ”
Naomi was quiet as she did her thing, rubbing enough anesthesia on my skin to numb the pain as she patched me up. She was wrapping my arm in a bandage when she turned her eyes to me. “Did you throw yourself in front of a bullet to protect him?”
I glanced at my arm. “My body just moved, Naomi. I would’ve done the same for any of you. You know that.”
She clutched my hand. “Exactly my point, girl. You’ve started to care for him. Probably as much as you care for the four of us.”
I scoffed. “Never. Nobody can replace you all.”
She looked at me. Her eyes glistened with so much kindness I wanted to run out of the room. “You’re allowed to care for more than four people. You’re allowed to let him care for you too. We would all be happy if you find that someone who loves you to death.”
I couldn’t think about it right now. As much as I claimed that Dominic was mine, as much as he felt like he belonged to me, only me , deep in my soul, I couldn’t risk his life.
Couldn’t tie him to my secrets and my lifestyle.
I jumped down from the table once Naomi was done and had me take some meds.
“Let’s go. We gotta interview that fucker.
Also, I sliced his chest with my knife. So you might want to patch him up a little.
On second thought, leave it. He’s dead anyway. ”
Naomi simply rolled her eyes at me. “You go ahead. I’ll clean up around here and join you all.”
I walked into the main living room to find the unconscious guy still on the table, Lena, Sloane, Tara, Sophie, Kai, and Dominic sitting in the chairs around the table. Dominic was the first to see me, and he was instantly out of his chair, dragging me to sit beside him.
“You ready to wake this fucker up?” Lena got a bottle of water in her hand.
I smiled at her, ready to start. “Let’s do it.”
She uncapped the bottle and poured it on the guy’s face.
Instantly, his eyes flashed open, and his body jerked, sputtering water out of his mouth.
We were all out of our chairs. Before I could even attempt to climb over the guy and interrogate him, Lena was on top of him, landing a solid punch on his cheek that had him spitting out his tooth.
I pulled his phone from my pocket and handed it to Lena. She slapped the guy hard. “Who hired you? Who was your target?”
The guy’s eyes widened at the six of us. He lay there, trembling on the table. “You…You don’t want to cross these men. They’re powerful people.”
Lena scoffed and spread her arms. “Look around, fucker. One of us could handle twenty of them. So think very, very carefully before you say another word.”
She pulled out her knife and put it to his throat. “Now, you harmed one of my girls. You targeted someone innocent. So give me a name. Who hired you?”
“I’m just a hit man. I don’t know who exactly hired me.
We only communicated through the burner phone.
He used a voice modulator to make it unrecognizable.
I just knew he was powerful because he offered five million dollars to kill Dominic Park.
Seven million if I managed to kill his sister as well. ”
Lena passed the phone to Tara. “Keep it. Whoever hired him will contact him for an update sooner or later. You can track the line then.”
She was the only one who wore her half mask right now.
The guy was still trembling with an angry Lena looming over him like death incarnate. “Are…Are you going to let me go?”
A dangerous smile spread across Lena’s face, a smile that looked very, very similar to the one I got on my face.
“You, Mr. Hit Man, have already seen all our faces. You attempted and nearly killed Dominic Park and his sister. Had it not been for my girl here, they would’ve been dead, and you would’ve walked off happily with your seven million dollars. So no. You don’t get to walk away.”
Lena only had to give me a look. By the time she jumped off the guy, I grabbed a gun from the wall behind and climbed over the guy on the table.
Standing over him, I pointed the barrel at his forehead and looked straight at Dominic.
His eyes were burning with an intensity that had my heart slamming against my chest. This writhing tide of protectiveness surged through my body, the need to eliminate anything that tries to harm him overpowering any rational thought.
“He shouldn’t have taken a shot at you.”
With my eyes trained on his, I pulled the trigger. Dominic didn’t flinch—didn’t even blink—at the booming noise. He simply kept his gaze locked on mine, his lips turned up in a proud smile. “Good girl.”
Had I ever been more turned on right after shooting a man in the face before? Fuck no. Right now, all I wanted to do was jump into his arms and claim his mouth.
A loud retching noise had me pulling my eyes off Dominic and onto Kai, who was leaning over against the window, on the verge of puking.
“If you puke on the floor, I’m going to make you clean it,” Lena’s voice boomed.
