Chapter 22 #2
Once we’d had the early breakfast and cleaned everything up, Dominic’s parents left with strict instructions to keep them posted on every little update. Sophie and Sloane also left after bringing in a brand-new wardrobe.
Since Dominic was already running late for his meeting, he pulled me into the shower with him, insisting that it would help us get ready quicker. One orgasm later, where he came between my ass cheeks after eating me out, we rushed around to get ready.
The moment I stepped out of the bathroom in a professional blouse and large flare pants, with my golden necklaces and choker and half of my ear piercings pulled out to give me a slightly less edgy look, Dominic halted from where he was putting on his tie.
“How do I look? Do I fit the bill as your personal assistant?”
Slowly, he tightened his tie and made his way to me. He tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear and gave me a soft kiss on the cheek. “If we don’t leave my house in the next minute, I won’t be responsible for what happens next.”
I couldn't help but chuckle. “You do know that my only job here is to keep you safe. And you’re the safest in your house. You won’t hear any objections from me if you’d prefer to stay in.”
He pulled me into his arms with a loud groan. “We need to go. I have an important client from London coming in an hour.”
I clutched his tie and started walking downstairs. “Let’s get moving then.”
In the next five minutes, we were seated in the back seat of his car, and Maxim drove us to the office. Dominic updated me on the arrangements Kai made for settling me into his office. While he would attend the meetings, I’d stay busy catching up on the recordings from the state attorney’s office.
Maxim dropped us at the entrance, where I got out before Dominic.
I checked for different vantage points and let Dominic walk in front of me, keeping an eye on the surroundings.
Once we were inside the large lobby space of his office building, Dominic directed us to the private elevator reserved for executives working on the top floor of the building.
We entered a large, open office space. Dominic was a powerhouse as he walked along the length of the aisle separating the working space with purpose and power. People paused what they were doing as they stared at him. While Dominic’s focus was on greeting everyone around him, my focus was on him .
I kept my eyes trained on the surroundings, taking note of the exits, the kitchen space, the lounge areas, and the conference rooms. All the spaces were separated by glass partitions, flooding the entire office space with morning light.
Dominic stopped in front of Kai, who stood smiling at the door to what was Dominic’s office. Before Dominic could get a word in, Kai turned to me. “I can tell you today’s going to be amazing.”
I chuckled. “Is that right?”
He shrugged. “I’m pretty sure Mr. Park here will be in a very good mood. And every one of us would breathe a little easier.”
Dominic sighed beside me and walked into his office, with Kai and me following. I met Kai’s eyes, and he gave me a see-what-I-have-to-deal-with-everyday look, making me chuckle. “He’s a hard-ass, huh?”
“Don’t you think so?” Kai asked, his eyes scrunched in genuine curiosity.
I glanced at Dominic, who stood leaning against his desk, staring at us, and I could just imagine him meticulously checking everybody’s work and snapping at every little mistake he caught.
The man seemed to demand perfection from the world around him.
But with me, I’d only ever seen him smile.
Except in the bedroom. He was a bossy fucker there, but that just made him hotter.
I shook my head at Kai though. “He’s alright.”
Kai snorted. “Pretty sure he’s too scared of you.”
A chuckle burst out of me at the same time Dominic scoffed. “Fuck off, Kai. I’m not scared of Samaira.”
Our eyes met, and I raised my eyebrows at him.
He simply rolled his eyes and grumbled something low in his throat.
Kai nodded, looking at Dominic with a ridiculously mischievous smile on his face. “That’s right, Hyung. Totally not scared of her. I see it. ”
Dominic sighed, clutching the bridge of his nose. “Why the hell do I keep you around?”
Kai righted the tie he wore and cleared his throat. “Everything’s been set as per your instructions in your office for Miss Samaira. Mr. Thompson would be here in five minutes. I’ve already set up the presentation on the screen in the conference room along with the refreshments.”
Dominic’s lip curled on one side. “Hmm. Sounds about right. Thank you.”
Kai gave me a wink and turned to Dominic. “If there wasn’t anything else, I’ll be in the conference room.”
With that, he left the office, closing the door behind him.
I took in Dominic’s office. His desk was situated in the center of the entire space, with two maroon rolling chairs facing his sleek yet comfortable chair. To the right of his desk, along the adjacent wall, a chair and a small white desk were set up, clearly for me.
I could see everything from his full-facade glass windows, from the Empire State Building to the One World Trade Center. While Dominic sat at his desk, I placed my purse—something I rarely used—on my desk and pulled out my laptop.
Once I sat down in my chair, I turned around to find Dominic staring at me. “You good, baby?”
My eyes widened. “You can’t say that here. I’m your fake personal assistant and your very real bodyguard. We can’t…We can’t be together like that out in public.”
His eyes slightly dimmed, and I instantly regretted it. I knew I was right, but he looked like I’d kicked his puppy. Still, he gave me a nod and a small smile. “I understand, Samaira. You’re right. Now, I have a meeting in five and just want to make sure you’re all set?”
I stood. “I’m all set. But I’d like to see the London associates for myself.”
He pressed his lips together as if suppressing his smile. “ Alright. They should be here soon. Umm…are you planning to pat them down?”
I shook my head. “I’m just an assistant, remember? Can’t exactly go full bodyguard on them. I just want to see and get a general vibe on them.”
“Alright. Let me know if something feels off.”
“I will.”
In the meantime, he walked up to the small pantry on the other side of the room and said, “I have a personal coffee machine here. But feel free to get whatever you want from the kitchen area. We get fresh snacks delivered every day.”
He led me to the kitchen and dining space, and I could feel the eyes of everyone from his office.
“Are you planning to tell them who I am?” I asked him softly.
He grabbed a plate and placed a blueberry muffin on it, then nodded. “Kai already sent out an email that I’ve hired a personal assistant. They’re just curious.”
I nodded and took the plate he handed me. “Makes sense.”
Right then, the elevator doors pinged open and five men stepped out. I placed the plate on one of the empty tables in the dining area and walked beside Dominic as he made his way to welcome the associates. Kai arrived at the same time and stood right beside me.
They looked like typical suit-clad businessmen.
The slightly older man in the center wore a jolly smile on his face as he shook Dominic’s hand.
Clearly, he was the boss. The remaining four stayed a step behind, following their boss’s cues.
Dominic shook everybody’s hand and introduced us.
“Gentlemen, these are my personal assistants, Samaira and Kai. Kai will be joining us in the meeting.”
Once we exchanged pleasantries, Kai led them all to the conference room while Dominic led me back to his office .
Once we stepped inside, he turned to me, his eyebrows raised in question.
“They don’t look like a threat. You should be fine.”
Dominic nodded, and I could see in his eyes that he wanted to step closer to me. His hands clenched into fists as he asked, “You’ll be fine?”
I pressed my lips together, stopping myself from getting too giddy, and nodded. “I’ll be fine, Dominic. You go do your thing. I’ll see you later. I’m a big girl. I can handle myself.”
He ran his hand along his hair, being careful not to mess it up. “I know you can, Maira. Well, see you in a few hours. This meeting might run a bit long.”
Once he was gone, I grabbed a coffee and an energy bar from his pantry and got to work.
I plugged in my headphones and started listening to the state attorney’s office recording at twice the speed, needing to catch up.
I surfed through the hit man’s phone on the other side, checking to see if he’d gotten any calls.
I couldn’t believe it had only been yesterday when we were attacked.
So much seemed to have changed in the past twenty-four hours. Dominic finally kissed me. Dominic made me come on his tongue, calling me baby, Maira, sweetheart . Dominic dried my hair, and we slept together in his bed. I was still not sure what this meant.
Did I want him to fuck me and fulfill all those filthy promises he made in my ear? Yes, absolutely yes.
Was I terrified of putting a label on what we were? Also, yes.
He seemed to have made up his mind that we belonged to each other. However, he also lived in a world where there were no consequences for one's actions. He didn’t have to sacrifice a part of himself to be with the person he loved. It wasn’t true for me, though.
I was extremely aware of my life choices. Being with him would only lead to danger and disaster. He made me weak. He made me paranoid. He made me forget the world around me. Every time he looked at me, I forgot who I was. I forgot all the sacrifices I’d made to become a Wildcat.
Last night had been the first time I’d been taken care of like I was precious.
Someone delicate. He was filthy and careful.
He was full of rage, but he also had that loneliness shining in his eyes, which tugged at my heart.
His eyes always softened when he looked at me but also churned with the darkest of desires when he touched me.
And I wanted more of his touch, more of his deliciously filthy words. I wanted his eyes on me— only me —all the time. I hated it when other women came closer to him and laughed with him. The thought of Dominic having gone down on some other woman made my blood boil.
His tongue, his cock, his heart, his attention, his thoughts, his smiles—they were all mine .
The only problem was that being mine might just put him in a constant state of risk and danger, and I wouldn’t let anything or anybody harm Dominic. Not even me.
