Chapter 6 #3

“Are you all right?” He said he’d never been better. “I feel a little tingly. Like I’m standing too close to an electrical socket that is going to shock me.”

“It’s the magic that I shared with you.” She nodded and closed her eyes. “Does it hurt that much? I’m sorry if I harmed you in any way, but that was by and far the best sex anyone in the world has ever had.”

“And how would you know that?” She didn’t move but continued to close her eyes. “I know where your brother is. I hate to bring him up, but just now I knew just what he’s doing and how he’s faring. He’s not having any luck getting anyone to come toward him the way he smells.”

“I’d forgotten about that. Where is he right now?

” She told him that he was looking for a cave that he could rest in.

“Yes, he’s only a thousand years younger than I am, but he still needs to rest during the hottest part of the day.

I didn’t have to do that since I was about a thousand years old.

I do when I’ve had a particularly stressful day, but I doubt that he’s had anything stressful to do in decades. ”

“He’s pissed at you. He feels that you’re hiding me from him so that he can’t take you to task.

He seems to think that you’ve found someone to love you, and it’s not me.

He’s looking for someone to blame for you keeping away from him.

” He said that he could blame whoever he wanted so long as he left her alone.

“I believe he is still going to try to find me. I’m the one that got away, his words, and he has to make sure that you pay for me.

I don’t know what that means in his head, but there it is. ”

“You’re reading his mind?” She told him she thought that’s what she was doing, but it was that, or he was talking to her. “You’re reading his mind. Try to read mine. Let me see how gentle you can be now that we’ve exchanged blood.”

She entered his head, and that was all he felt. She told him some of his thoughts, but nothing more personal. When she moved out, he didn’t feel a thing but her telling him that she’d left. Kimber was as good at reading minds as he was, and he’d had a lot more practice.

They didn’t talk more about David, but she did tell him how she was feeling.

The tingling was still there, and it was getting stronger, she told him, but he didn’t feel anything bad happening to her.

Even as they talked about the magic that he could almost taste on her, she never opened her eyes. He asked her if she was all right.

“I am. I’m dealing what you might say. It’s a lot of magic or something coming to me, and I don’t want to miss any of it.

” She finally turned to him and smiled. “You’re very powerful, aren’t you?

I didn’t know what that meant before, but now I get it.

You’re as powerful as Brew and maybe a bit more.

I think a little of it has to do with me, but you were powerful before.

Did you know that you could have been the king of your kind but for you not marrying Calla? She’s very powerful, too.”

“I know that they’re both powerful, but I didn’t think I was as powerful as Brew. Where are you getting that information from?” She told him that she could feel it all around her. “Maybe I’m just too close or something. That could be all it is.”

“No, you’re more powerful than Brew. But like I said, with Calla in his life, he became more so.

Still not as powerful as you, but close.

And something else you should know, you can kill your brother.

He’s not related to you by blood.” He said that it didn’t matter that they had the same parents.

“No, trust me on this. You can kill him now for what he’s doing to the world.

He’s making vampires have a bad name. But you can do it because there is no direct bloodline between the two of you. ”

“You’re sure about this.” She nodded and told him that she’d gotten the information from the books that Calla had given her. “Then why didn’t she say anything?”

“She believes that you shared a mother. She wasn’t told that you shared no one in your family that raised you.

” She nodded. “Yes, I’m sure of it now. Calla believed all this time that you shared blood with him, and that’s why she never mentioned it before.

When he comes for me, and he will, you don’t have to wait until he harms me to take him on.

Neither do I. If he comes to me with harm intended to me, I’ll remove his head just as well as you would. ”

“I don’t want you to take him on, Kimber.

He’ll kill you.” She just smiled at him as she rose from the bed.

“Did you hear me? I don’t want it to come to the two of you in that he gets that close to you.

I will remove his head if necessary, and by the way you’re talking about it, it sounds like it will, but please tell me that you won’t engage with him at all. I can’t have anything happen to you.”

“He can come after you with ill intent, too, you know.” She left him there with the sheets covered in blood and went to the bathroom.

He didn’t know what to think about her last comment.

Yes, he could come after him, but since he was stronger than David, then it wouldn’t be a contest between them.

The more he thought about David, the more afraid he got for Kimber.

What if she was right and she had to defend him?

He didn’t want to think about that right now and got up to join her in the shower.

David didn’t come up again, for which he was grateful.

She did tell him once they were out of the stall that she could bring things to her that were big, but he didn’t know what would be bigger than her that she’d need.

As soon as they were both dried off and dressed, they went to the kitchen to get her something to eat and drink.

“You’re going to have to drink more fluids when I feed from you like that.

” She told him juice would be best, and he agreed with her.

Something was different about Kimber, and he wasn’t sure what it was, but she seemed calmer than before.

Like she had an assignment to do and understood how it was to be done.

He came back to the fact that David could hurt him, too, and wondered about that.

Surely he’d not be able to get the better of him?

“Did you know that red meat will help you, along with what I take from you as well?”

“Yes. I’m getting all my information from the books.

It’s like I’ve downloaded them into my head and I know each and every rule and how it can be broken.

” She took a bite of a roast beef sandwich before continuing.

“You should be Brew’s second. That way you can keep him safe as I will Calla. We’re both strong enough to do it now.”

Yes, he thought there was something different about Kimber.

She seemed more confident than before. Calmer, too, he thought.

While he didn’t know what was going on, he liked this new version of her.

He also liked knowing that she was going to be there for him should he need it.

And while he didn’t know what was going to happen, he was glad that she was in his corner.
