Epilogue
Renley
Four Years Later
Pulling up to Laira’s and Tod’s ranch felt like coming home. Eveline had fallen asleep an hour ago after having worked overtime on one of her biggest projects yet. He still worked for her and Jeronimo, but he knew that all of that was about to change.
Mathew and Drew were already sitting on the porch waiting for them, so Renley softly woke Eveline. “Kitten, we’re here.” She murmured, sleep drunk, her eyes fluttering open. “The boys are already over the moon to see you.”
Eveline smiled sleepily, her door being yanked open. “Hi there, sweet peas.”
“You’re here!” the bouncing boys exclaimed.
While Renley got her chair from the trunk, the boys babbled along, Laira shouting from the porch. “Boys, give her space!”
Naturally, they didn’t, updating both of them on everything that had happened since Thanksgiving.
The house was a winter wonderland with a huge tree and lights decorating every available surface.
Laira always went overboard, and Renley had loved it ever since his first Christmas with them.
Even though he and Eveline were exhausted, they didn’t let it show until after the boys were upstairs and in bed.
They all settled on the couch, but not before Renley retrieved Laira’s early Christmas present.
Sitting down next to his wife, he handed over the gift bag. It had been three months since they’d tied the knot, and Renley was still getting used to the idea that this wonderful woman had chosen to spend the rest of her life with him . “We wanted to give you this without the boys around.”
Hesitating as she pulled out the tissue, his sister-in-law flicked her eyes between them. “If I open this bag and find a dildo…”
“Not this time,” Eveline laughed, shaking her head.
As Tod leaned in for a closer look, Laira pulled out a tiny baby onesie that said “Auntie’s Bestie . ” It took a few seconds for the message to register but the moment it did, tears filled her eyes. Laira pounced on her sister, screaming loudly. “You’re pregnant!”
“Shh! The boys will hear you.”
“Oh my god, you’re having a baby!”
“Yes, we are.”
“How far along are you?”
“Three months.”
Tod left the room, returning with a beer in each hand and offering one to Renley, squeezing his shoulder. “Congrats. The honeymoon was clearly worth it.”
“I didn’t want to tell you yet…” Laira looked at her husband, only continuing at his reassuring nod. “But we just found out we’re pregnant again.”
It was Eveline who screamed this time. “We’re going to do this together!”
“We are.”
“How far along?”
“Only a few weeks, we haven’t even had our first appointment yet.”
Renley smirked up at Tod. “That Thanksgiving break we gave you from the boys was worth it, huh?”
“Every second,” Tod confirmed, smirking, yet blushing at the same time.
Renley’s heart was full of joy as he listened to Laira and Eveline babble on about pregnancy, joint baby showers, and gender reveals. There was nowhere else in the world he wanted to be but here, with his wife by his side, awaiting their first child.
