Chapter 4 #2
He didn’t waste a second. Beau slid his fingers beneath the hinged lid and picked up the brownie. He took a huge bite and let out a groan that did things to me it shouldn’t have done.
“Oh, this is so delicious. You weren’t joking about it being perfectly fudgy.”
Those were the exact words I’d used to describe the brownies, and somehow, Beau had remembered them. I liked the way that made me feel almost as much as I liked the proximity to him now. “I’m glad you like it.”
He held the brownie out to me. “Do you want a bite?”
I shook my head. “No. I brought it for you.”
“Listen, I don’t like sharing desserts with anyone, but after this, I think you deserve at least a small bite.”
Sighing, I said, “Fine. I’ll have a bite.” Secretly, I liked the idea of Beau feeding me a sweet treat.
He held the brownie up to my lips and watched my mouth as I took a bite. He took another for himself, but his eyes never left mine.
“Beau. There you are.”
At the sound of the unfamiliar voice, I had no choice but to tear my attention away from Beau. He looked away as well, and that’s when we noticed one of his friends walking toward us.
“Jamie, what’s up?”
Jamie’s eyes shifted between Beau and me before ultimately settling on his friend. “Sorry to interrupt, man, but we’ve been looking for you. They want to do a team photo and some other promotional things right now.”
Beau jerked his chin up. “Alright, give me a minute. I’ll be right there.”
Jamie nodded. “Sure.”
After he turned and walked off without an introduction, Beau looked at me. “I have to go.”
“It’s okay. I should probably head out of here anyway. This was fun, though.”
“I’m glad. Why don’t I walk you to your car?”
“Are you sure? I don’t want anyone to get upset with you.”
He shook his head and stood. “Don’t worry about it. They’ll be fine for a few more minutes.”
Who was I to argue?
I stood, and Beau and I walked together through the grass fields around the skatepark and to the parking lot. On the way, Beau finished his brownie and tossed the empty container into the trash.
“This is me,” I said when we made it to my car. “Thanks again for inviting me to come and watch.”
“Thanks for coming. I really am happy to hear you enjoyed yourself.” He smiled. “And thanks for the brownie. It was incredible. I just have to figure out some way to thank you for it.”
I shook my head. “No, you don’t. Honest, it was no big deal.”
“Well, maybe not to you, but I loved it, so I feel it’s only fair I show my appreciation.”
Licking my lips, I asked, “What did you have in mind?”
Beau’s gaze darted between my lips and my eyes.
He didn’t say anything for a long time, but when he finally spoke, it was safe to say he’d proven just how thankful he was.
“I realize it’s probably not ideal, since I’ve been skating and sweating all day, but I could kiss you, if you think that’d work. ”
I could feel the flush creep over my cheeks. My voice was just a touch over a whisper as I replied, “I think that would be sufficient.”
Beau hesitated for just a few seconds before he took one step forward, closing the distance between us, and lifted his hand to the side of my neck.
His thumb stroked lightly against the skin that ran along the front of my throat, sending shivers down my spine.
As he leaned in, I tipped my chin up, and my lips parted just a touch.
A moment later, Beau’s lips brushed lightly against mine. Unintentionally, I let out a whimper, and that’s when he completely captured my mouth. His lips were soft yet firm as he kissed me, and he tasted like chocolate.
And the next thing I knew, Beau’s tongue was driving into my mouth. He groaned at the first touch of my tongue against his, and without losing the connection to me, he cupped me behind the head, stepped forward, and pinned me between him and my car.
My hands reached up and clamped down on his strong arms, loving the feel of his smooth, heated skin beneath my fingertips.
As our tongues continued to tangle and taste and explore, I grew more and more turned on. Moaning, I arched my back before rolling my hips.
Evidently, that was just what Beau needed to stop what was happening. He tore his mouth away from my lips, rested his forehead against mine, and said, “Damn.”
“Mmm.”
That was the only response I could muster.
“I was supposed to be showing you my appreciation, but if that’s the way you kiss, I don’t think I’ve done nearly enough to demonstrate my gratitude.”
Did he think he was the only one feeling all hot and bothered? I was still gripping his arms like I was afraid he’d vanish. “Trust me when I tell you,” I started between my labored breaths. “You’ve more than given me your thanks.”
He chuckled and kissed me again.
When we reached the same point once more, he said, “I wish I didn’t have to go back over there, because I’d love nothing more than to take you out of here and kiss every inch of you.”
Another shiver crawled down my spine, and I tightened my grip on him in response. “Maybe another time,” I suggested.
Beau pulled his head back, looked down at me with such promise in his eyes, and said, “Definitely another time.”
All I could do was send a seductive smile his way.
Beau groaned, lifted his weight off me, and opened my door. “I’ll reach out to you later.”
“Okay.”
“Later, Jules.”
“Goodbye, Beau.”
Before I wanted it to happen, Beau closed my door, and I was on my way home.
But on the bright side, I was able to drive there with a smile on my face and the taste of Beau lingering in my mouth.
