Chapter 5 The Family’s Accusations

I explained calmly, "It was Liu Erhun who hit him."

Gu Fang shouted at me discontentedly, "Song Xiaoya, why didn't you block for my brother?"

I looked at Zhu Xiuqin, who was applying medicine to Gu Cheng in an intimate manner.

"Why don't you blame the one who caused the trouble?"

Zhu Xiuqin's eyes turned red instantly. I had to admit, Zhu Xiuqin was very pretty.

She had a natural frail and delicate look that made people want to protect her.

"I'm sorry. I had no choice but to hide from him. I'll leave right now."

Gu Fang and Gu Yuan immediately held her back and turned to glare at me hatefully.

Gu Cheng also looked disapproving. "Song Xiaoya, you've changed. I thought you were as kind as your mother. Zhu Xiuqin is already so pitiful. We should help her."

I laughed coldly. "You're so kind. Then you can take a few more punches from Liu Erhun."

I hoped that when he got his leg broken by Liu Erhun later, he could still be this "kind."

The room fell silent instantly. Several people lowered their heads guiltily.

It was obvious they all realized that after Gu Cheng faked his death, I would be the one to face Liu Erhun's wrath.

I went back to my room and packed a small bundle, ready to leave at dawn.

It was because Gu Cheng had lived in my house for many years. The villagers all assumed we were one family.

If I ran into someone unreasonable like Brother Ma, the debt Gu Cheng owed would still fall on me. As a girl with no relatives, I had to fake my death to hide first.

I also wanted Gu Cheng to experience the feeling of his careful plans falling apart in an instant.

Perhaps because something was on my mind, I did not sleep soundly.

I recalled the end of my previous life. Before I died, I asked Gu Cheng unwillingly why he had schemed against me like this.

He looked cold and indifferent. "It was wrong of me to deceive you. But if it weren't for repaying your family's kindness, I would have married Zhu Xiuqin. She wouldn't have married that bastard either. Now she's enjoyed the blessings in your place, and you've repaid what you owed her."

I was so angry I spat blood on the spot.

If I had known there was someone else in his heart, I would never have agreed to marry him no matter what.

It was clearly him enjoying my care for him and his siblings while still thinking about Zhu Xiuqin.

In the morning, Gu Cheng had a black eye. When he saw me come out of the room, he hurried over.

I knew that this afternoon was the time he planned to fake his death and leave.

He was worried about his younger siblings and wanted to give me more instructions.

I did not give him the chance because a group of people came to my house to move the furniture.

I was about to leave. I would not leave anything for them.

The big wardrobe that Gu Fang liked and the desk that Gu Yuan used were sold by me.

These were all bought by my mother before she passed.

The two children stared at me with hatred. Gu Cheng could not figure out what I was thinking and asked tentatively.

I explained immediately, "We are getting married soon. We need to replace the furniture with new ones. Gu Fang is growing up. She needs a better wardrobe. Gu Yuan has grown taller too. A new desk will make studying more convenient."

Gu Fang yelled, "I want a vanity cabinet and a big bed too."

Gu Yuan was not to be outdone. "I want one too."

I waved my hand generously. "You'll have all of those."

Just not paid for by me.

Gu Cheng looked at me gratefully and even wanted to hug me.

"Song Xiaoya, you're so good. With you here, I can rest assured."

I felt disgusted.

I quickly said it was getting late and I needed to go to town to look at new furniture.

"Song Xiaoya, from now on we will be one family. Swear on your mother's name now that no matter what happens, you will be good to my younger brother and sister. Otherwise, your mother won't rest in peace underground."
