Chapter 8 Zero Scores

After I got twenty straight zeros on my exams, Ji Shijing finally broke.

A teacher had called him and politely asked if I was mentally challenged.

"Ji Shijing, I don't mean anything else, but no matter how we teach Lin Yi, she just can't learn... Is there something wrong with her in that area?"

The teacher was being tactful.

But the meaning was clear: it sounded like she thought there was something wrong with my brain.

I believed it.

Once she confirmed I was brain damaged, it wouldn't take more than 48 hours for people across the Pacific to know that the brilliant Ji Shijing had given birth to an idiot daughter.

From then on, the first thing anyone would say to him would be:

"I heard you have an idiot daughter. Has she been cured yet?"

Ji Shijing clenched his fists so tightly that the muscles in his cheeks trembled.

"Lin Yi, weren't you a top scorer in the college entrance exam in your previous life? Now you're scoring twenty zeros in first grade elementary school? Just wait. Wait until everyone starts calling you stupid girl."

I looked at him provocatively.

"This move is called killing one thousand enemies while losing eight hundred of your own!"

Ji Shijing roared.

"The thing I care about most in my life is my face! Lin Yi! Don't you want your dignity at all!"

I picked my nose and said carelessly,

"A tree without bark will surely die. A person without shame is invincible!"

In the end, Ji Shijing had no choice.

He transferred fifty thousand to Si Han to pay for my entire semester's meals.

He sat defeated on the sofa, lighting one cigarette after another.

Finally, he swallowed his pride and begged me.

"Please, can you at least write something on the next test? Stop scoring zero. I've been smart my whole life. I can't have a daughter who scores zeros."

Si Han, who was eating melon seeds on the side, clapped her hands.

"As expected of the man I chose. So pathetic. I like it!"
