Chapter 11 The Jacket
Those memories pressed down on me until I could hardly breathe. My vision had already turned blurry.
Suddenly, Ji Shijing's voice pulled me back.
"You little boys are really stupid. You don't even know what a period is?"
"Every girl has a period, including your mothers. It's not something to be ashamed of."
"When you take biology class, you'll learn that menstruation is a very normal physiological phenomenon. Without periods, none of you would exist."
He walked quickly toward me.
While speaking, he took off his suit jacket and wrapped it around my waist, perfectly covering the stain on my pants.
The little boys fell silent.
They watched Ji Shijing quietly.
Even the parents who wanted to argue that their children weren't stupid stayed silent.
"Does any parent have an extra sanitary pad? Could you lend me one?"
The parents on site unconsciously tightened their grip on their bags.
I guessed they had some.
But because of that ridiculous sense of shame, none of them dared to take one out in public.
The atmosphere remained deathly silent for dozens of seconds until it was broken by an apricot-haired female parent who looked extremely cool and capable.
"I have some."
She took out a pack of pink sanitary pads from her bag and handed it to Ji Shijing.
Ji Shijing tore one out, stuffed it into my pocket, and told me to go to the bathroom and change immediately.
I didn't hesitate. I immediately turned and ran toward the toilet.
As I left, I could still hear Ji Shijing educating those kids and some embarrassed men who didn't want to reveal their names.
His steady and powerful voice rang out slowly.
"Ten years ago, when I went to the supermarket, I often saw women buying sanitary pads ask the cashier for a black bag to wrap them tightly before putting them in their bags."
"But now, I see more and more women daring to pick up sanitary pads openly, pay for them, and leave with transparent plastic bags without any shame. I think most people no longer find this surprising."
"Periods are not shameful. What is shameful are the people who treat periods as something shameful."
In that moment, I suddenly felt that Ji Shijing was not just a paper person who had awakened, nor was he saying these words only because of the Good Dad System.
He was a man of flesh and blood.
A man with beliefs and responsibility.
