Epilogue
HATTIE
I smiled as I surveyed our friends and family. They were scattered around the back patio of The Dock, where we were hosting our rehearsal dinner. It still amazed me that our little group of friends and family had added so many more kids in the last year. Maybe there really was something in the water last spring, because Bella, Brittney, and Sarah all had infants close in age.
Dylan stepped up next to me and handed me a glass of wine. “The rehearsal went well, don’t you think?”
I raised an eyebrow at him. “Sure, if you don’t count the shitshow Savannah caused.”
Leave it to her to show up at my wedding rehearsal with a date and cause an uproar.
“Eh.” Dylan lifted a shoulder and let it drop. “I don’t think she had a clue Kyle would respond like that. You two were so young when his best friend’s sister drowned, weren’t you?”
“Yeah. I think I was seven, so that would have made Savannah five.” Honestly neither Savannah nor I remember much of what happened, but obviously it had something to do with the guy Savannah brought as her date.
With his lips pressed to my temple, he pulled me into his side. “Don’t let it get to you. They’ll work it out.”
I hoped so. As much as my family exhausted me most days, I couldn’t handle it if any of them were upset tomorrow.
“At least Rhett seems okay with it.”
A chuckle slipped from Dylan’s lips. “I think he’s just happy she didn’t end up with one of his friends.”
I rolled my eyes. “Not sure he has any left. If he did, Savannah totally would have dated one of his friends just to annoy him.”
“Probably.” His smirk morphed into a full smile.
I followed his gaze, finding Rhett holding Luna in the crook of his arm.
I couldn’t wait until we had one of our own. Dylan would be an amazing dad. It wouldn’t always be easy, but we had a pretty good handle on being partners and lovers. I had no doubts that we could handle being co-parents too.
Laughter erupted from the table where our parents were sitting, snagging my attention.
I shook my head. “Those four are trouble, you know that?”
He huffed a laugh. “Yeah. My parents are talking about selling their house and moving here.”
Warmth bloomed in my chest. “Really?”
“Yup. They’ve been telling me that for years. Every time they visit. I think once we tell them they’re going to be grandparents, they’ll take the leap.”
I glanced up at him as my mouth fell open. “You know it could take some time, right? It might not happen right away.”
“I know.” He kissed the top of my head. “But you know I like a challenge, so I plan to try as often as you’ll let me.”
My core throbbed just thinking about being with him. “Think anyone would miss us if we left now?”
He barked out a laugh and scanned our surroundings. With a hand to the small of my back, he took a step forward, urging me along. “Yes. Let’s do a few more rounds, and then maybe we can leave.”
“Fine.” I stuck my bottom lip out in a pout. “I guess you’re right.”
By this time tomorrow, I would officially be his wife, and I couldn’t wait to call him my husband.
