Chapter 21

Chapter

Twenty-One

“Okay, he needs a bottle when he cries, and he’s kind of heavy. If he—”

Reno stared at Mercury like he was crazy, which Mercury got because he was feeling a little crazy right now. “I have a baby. I know how to do this.”

“Yes, but you don’t know how to do it with mine, and what if I don’t come back?”

“You’re going to come back,” Reno snarled. “You’re taking Talon and Kami with you, and you’re going to come back.”

Kami shook his head. “Mercury, we don’t have to do this.”

“Yes, we do. You said somebody had a stone out there, and we needed to bring it back. Right? We’re not just doing this for fun and practice.”

They had been practicing going from one apartment to the other, and then from downstairs to upstairs, and then from right outside the mountain to places inside the mountain, so he was getting pretty good at sliding with precision.

He was also super good at saying no.

Anemone had worked with him, and he used little Silver as a focus. He had a baby. He had someone besides himself to consider.

That made a huge difference.

Kami nodded, smiling his gentle lunatic smile. “Yep. I know exactly where it is.”

“Then we gotta go.”

“But we go together.” Talon stepped right up, his braaken close. “Always three of us. If not me, then Reno.”

“And if Reno can’t, then Donnal, in an emergency.” He knew.

“Right.” Talon grinned. “Because that guy is fierce.”

“Oh my God, if I wasn’t taken.” Kami winked at Reno.

“Do you honestly think for a second that I’m worried?” Reno gave Kami the eagle eye. “Don’t you three have a stone to go get or something?” Reno waved his hand. “I’m going to take care of children and possibly feed them lots of sugar right before I know you’re going to be home.”

Kami grinned as he grabbed Talon’s and Mercury’s hands and squeezed.

Mercury took a deep breath and started gathering energy, sharing it between them. “Are we ready?”

“We are, man. Let’s go make this happen.” Mercury felt his world begin to tingle and shine. It was time to go. “Okay, where do we want to land? Where are we going?”

Kami grinned. “I’ve got it. Oh, one second.” He looked at Reno. “By the way, I’m pregnant.”

And then they slid.
