Chapter 9 #3
“Fuck outta here. What you wanna—” The knock on my door got our attention.
I stood and went to the door, and it was one of my waitresses with the replacement ginger ale that he ordered after he drank mine up. I took the drink and thanked her before closing the door.
“Why are you drinking ginger ale?” His eyes were on me, and he was concerned. He was giving me that hard stare that held not a wink of amusement.
“Because I feel like I need to burp, like something is caught in my chest.” I shrugged it off. “Is that okay, dad?”
“Smart-ass.”
“So what are you doing here?” I glanced at him from across the room.
“I decided to conduct my business right here since you wanna play that spoiled shit. Don’t hang no more fucking phones up either. If you do, I’ma break ya shit and get you one of those fucking pagers.”
“And who said you could take over my office?” I asked as I walked around my desk and grabbed my phone.
“I did when you started yo’ shit, and ain’t nobody taking over yo’ office. You can come sit on my lap while I handle my business, baby.”
I cracked up laughing. “I’ll pass. Are you hungry?” I was over my little sour mood.
He nodded his head as I heard a knock at the door. “Those buttered garlic parmesan wings that you bring to the house.”
I nodded my head and approached the door. “I’ll go order them while you do whatever.” When I opened the door, it was my brother and two other dudes.
“What are you doing here, Reg?” Amil asked immediately.
He was taking me in like a concerned parent.
The other two guys stepped past us while my brother stood in the small hallway.
There were two doors and another doorway.
One door was to my office, the other was to another office that I had set up like a lounge for when I had Kale there, and the other was the breakroom for the employees.
“Have you forgotten that this is my place of business?”
“Yeah, but right now, ain—”
“Wassup, sis? I knew it was a reason this nigga jumped out of his skin to get to this motherfucker. Lane should be on her way here in a few. Ya boy fucked up my plans, moving this meeting up.” Taurus came down the narrow hallway.
He kissed my cheek like usual and stepped through the open door to my office.
My brother stared at me in astonishment.
“How do you… Never mind. We’ll talk after this.
” He stepped into the office, and I continued down the hall to find a waiter.
Once I did, I put the order in for his and my wings.
I made my way toward the lounge. I didn’t wanna be all in Savior’s face while he handled whatever business he had, so I went and chilled elsewhere.
It wasn’t long before Lane was calling me and telling me she was up front.
My little spoiled moment with Savior had affected everybody.
LANE
I watched Regancy stuff the chicken down her throat like she hadn’t eaten for days and shook my head.
“What happen to meatless and clean eating?” She was forever going on those cleanses that were supposed help her keep off the extra weight, and for the most part, she succeeded, but that time, she’d failed miserably.
She looked up at me and finished chewing before she offered the very explanation that blew my fucking shoes off my feet. “I got knocked up.”
“Excuse me? That is nothing to play with. Tell me you’re serious.” I looked at her to see if she was lying or telling me the truth.
“No. Serious. I’m pregnant. I found out a few weeks ago. I haven’t said anything to anyone because I’m still in the first trimester and it’s a high-risk pregnancy.”
I had the biggest smile on my face as I just looked at her. “I’ma be a godmom of two, and you’re ab—”
“To have another baby, but this time I have him.” She smiled.
“You do, and how does he feel about it?” I asked.
“He took it better than me. I went to the doctor thinking I was sick, when, in reality, it’s a damn miracle.”
“It is, and I’m just so happy for you. You deserve to be happy and in bliss with someone who genuinely cares about your overall well-being, even if you stress that man out.”
“How do you know I stress him out? It could be the complete opposite.” She gave me that guilty look.
“Because I know your ill-tempered ass, and I’m sure with pregnancy it’s hell.” I knew I was right, because I knew my best friend. “Anyway, what are your plans for your birthday? Just because you don’t bring it up doesn’t mean we just forget about it.” I smiled.
She shrugged me off. “Well, I haven’t thought about it.”
“Since you haven’t thought about it, allow me to. It’ll be beautiful and boring since I can’t get you drunk.
She and I talked for about an hour before Taurus found himself in the doorway. He was rushing me because he was ready to go. Just like a nigga to dictate my day and then rush me when I finally got comfortable.
“I will be in touch with you about your birthday.” I kissed her cheek before standing and walking toward Taurus.
“Aye, sis, can you please stop provoking this nut ass nigga? You be pushing buttons.” Taurus laughed as Savior walked over to Regancy.
“She ain’t pushing no buttons. She just wanna get fucked up.” Savior cut his eyes in Regancy’s direction before gripping the food container that was sitting on the table in front of her.
“Yeah, and whose gonna attempt it?” she asked, looking in his direction.
He laughed. “That’s the shit I be talking about.”
I giggled.
“Don’t dodge my call either when I call about this birthday dinner.
” I pointed in her direction as Taurus pulled me by my hand out of the door before I could say anything else.
He was so damned pushy and demanding. Before I could get out of the restaurant, I looked up and saw a familiar face.
I couldn’t control the expression on my face as I stormed in the direction of the table.
I mean, I already knew it was something because of the conversation I had with my mother, but I definitely didn’t expect to see it with my own eyes.
“Dad?” I looked down at him, then over at the attractive brown-skinned girl that looked at least half my age.
