Chapter 12 Old Friend’s Confrontation
Lu Xuchen's shop selling Fried Skewers was very popular.
Even more than his dad's.
I went every day but could rarely get a turn. Once, I was almost next when a girl cut in front of me.
She said to Lu Xuchen, "Old friend, I came to support."
Lu Xuchen was busy frying in the back kitchen at first and had not noticed someone cut in front of me.
He heard the voice and came out from the back.
Seeing the girl, he greeted casually, "Long time no see. Still mild spicy as usual?"
"Wow, you actually remember my taste even after years." The girl happily covered her mouth.
"Hey, isn't this Xu Yunnian, the daughter of the Xu family across the street?"
A familiar customer recognized the girl.
"She has grown so much. Speaking of which, Boss Lu and she are childhood sweethearts. They have a very good relationship."
Other customers teased along, "So the girl your dad said you like, is it this Miss Xu Yunnian?"
"Handsome guy and beautiful girl, perfect match."
"Hey, everyone, stop joking." Xu Yunnian turned to the customers and waved her hand, looking shy. "We are just ordinary friends."
I listened, and my heart felt uneasy.
Before, I had never dared ask for Lu Xuchen's contact because I felt inferior.
I looked ordinary, and Lu Xuchen was such a handsome guy. How could he like me?
"Shy about what? We are not outsiders. We are old customers for years. We watched you and Lu Xuchen grow up. You two are so well matched."
The customers present obviously did not believe it. They thought Xu Yunnian was just shy and not telling the truth.
"Hey, why does everyone say that? I am getting embarrassed."
Suddenly, a hand pressed my shoulder.
Xu Yunnian turned me around to face the customers. "If I looked this ugly, would you still think I match?"

Listening to their teasing, my face looked embarrassed.
My eyes gradually moistened. Tears were hard to hold back.
Suddenly, a heavy bang sounded.
I looked over.
"Hey, Xu Yunnian, have you had enough?"
Lu Xuchen frowned tightly, his tone very impatient.
"Are you here to eat or to bully people? I have no such thoughts about you."
The whole place fell silent for a few seconds after he spoke.
