Chapter 21

Walking out of the hospital, we slide into the backseat of the all black audi. It”s a nice car and makes me wonder what this family does because this is a GX 460. I slide my hand across the smooth red leather seats. As we pull out of the hospital, Jo glances back over my discharge summary instructions. As I roll down the window, feeling the warm heat on my face, she grabs my arm.

“Lux.” she looks me in the eyes with a panicked look.

“Yeah” She’s about to make me freak out. “What’s wrong?

“It says no strenuous activity for the next four to six weeks.” That serious ass look she is giving me feels like she is about to read me the riot act.

“Oooohkaaay” I drag out.

“What if you get some really hot foster brothers?” She asks, wiggling her brows.

“You’re so stupid.” I say as I laugh and shake my head at her nonsense.

“No seriously.” She says.“What if you need to escape?” Tears flowing down her face. “You know what. If you need to escape, then call me. We will escape into the night and go live someplace and own a shit ton of cats.” She wipes her cheeks.

“Deal.” I reach over. Pulling her into a hug.

We pull up to the iron gate with the monogrammed R in the middle, the driver punches in a code, causing the gate to open, giving us access to the grounds. Driving through the gates, we head towards the house located at the back of the subdivision. Pulling in and around the circular driveway that holds the stone-built waterfall, I notice the bushes that line the house. It”s a three story gray brick house that has an enormous bay window and detached garage. There are balconies on either side with a wrap-around front porch. Opening my door, I step out of the car and take a look around the place.

“Holy shit!” I can’t keep the excitement from my voice.

“It’s beautiful, babe.” Jo grabs my hand, gripping it tightly..

“How far away is your place?” I ask her as my anxiety picks up.

“Just over there.” She smiles. Pointing to the similar house directly across the street with the attached garage.

“Really?” she nods. “How? This is amazing! Now I feel so much better knowing you”re that close.” I say, squeezing her hand. “I wonder what they’re like. What if they hate me?”

“Relax, babe. You”re causing yourself to panic. I can only imagine what you”re feeling but I’ll stay with you for as long as I can, okay?” I nod as she smiles at me.

We walk up to the stone path towards the front door. Pulling out the key left at the hospital for me, I put it into the door, pushing it open and stepping inside. Looking around, I see how clean it is and smile. I hope this means it will stay this way so I won’t have much to clean every day.

“This is a nice place and so clean, right?” I look over at Jo. She nods her head in agreement.

Just then, a little woman comes around the corner, heading towards us. She reaches us and smiles as she introduces herself.

“You must be Aluxis. My name is On’Marie.” She says, shaking hands with us. “Let me show you to your room so you can get settled.”

We follow her through the living room, towards the back of the house, making our way up the white spiral staircase that leads to the second floor where there are seven bedrooms. She walks to the door in the middle of the hallway, leaving three rooms on each side.

“Here we are,” On’Marie says with a smile.

After she turns and heads back down the stairs, I turn, opening the door, walking in, and gasping. Holy shit! There are cream-colored walls with teal trimming, a teal bed set that covers a brand-new California King bed, and a black bed frame with a hanging black lace canopy . There is a matching set of bedroom furniture that includes a makeup station. I walk over to the wall made of mirrors and open the doors that reveal a walk-in closet. Inside are clothes, shoes, and accessories. Hmm, they thought of everything I see. I walk back out and go towards the door on the right side of the room that reveals a huge master bathroom that houses a jacuzzi tub, glass shower with multiple shower heads, toilet, and a sink. It”s filled with everything I will need.

How did they get all of this done so quickly? They must have been expecting another girl.I head back into the bedroom. My stomach lets out a grumble, informing me that I’m hungry. I forgot I haven’t eaten yet.

“Come on, let’s go raid the fridge.” Jo grabs my arm, dragging me behind her as we head down to the kitchen.

We are sitting at the kitchen island eating turkey sandwiches and grapes when Jo looks over at me with a concerned look.

“Lux. There’s something I need to tell you. Promise me you won’t get mad.” Jo is freaking me out. I don’t even realize I haven’t answered her back when she shakes my shoulder.

Flashbacks come flooding in as I hear the familiar words playing in my head.

“Huh?” I say, bringing myself back to the present. “What is it?” I ask.

“I know who your foster brothers are.” She must see the panic written on my face because she quickly says, “You know them too.”

Just as I’m about to ask her to elaborate, I hear a commotion in the living room.

“That fucking chick is clingy as fuck bro. She wouldn’t stop throwing herself at me. What was I supposed to do?” I hear a deep voice say.

“Maybe not try fucking her mom, you dumbass.” Another guy says.

What the fuck!

They walk around the corner and into the kitchen. They stop talking and just stare at me with wide eyes.

What the fuck! Is that?. It can’t be.
