Chapter 30 Farrah
“Y’all are crazy,” Mekhayla said, laughing as her mother glared daggers at me.
I had tried to retreat to my room, but was that bitch happy?
Oh, no. She’d come knocking on my door, demanding I call Mekhi to see if I could get through to him.
He wasn’t answering for her, and she acted like it was my fault.
She was standing in the hallway outside my door, hands on her hips.
“I’m not crazy. I just need this… girl to do as I asked,” snapped Gillian.
“Umm… I’m not a girl and I’m not calling him. Steel told you he was busy. You just gon’ have to wait,” I said as calmly as I could.
I guess I could have been real with her and let her know Mekhi had taken my phone to make sure it had no tracking devices or tracing apps on it since Trell had my number, but that was none of her business.
Plus, I had questions about this bitch. Sitting in my room, I remembered that her name was one Trell had spoken.
She might be involved in all this. I didn’t give a damn if she was Mekhi’s mama.
If it came down to me or her, her ass was toast.
“Look, I don’t know who the fuck you think you are—”
“I’ve told you who I am—”
“Ay! Ay! Ay! Fuck y’all got going on?” Mekhi’s voice suddenly boomed from the top of the stairs.
My blood was pounding so hard in my damn ears that I hadn’t even heard him come in. I whirled to face him, my face twisted up as I was about to cuss his ass out.
“Uh-uh, who you talking to like that?” his mother asked him, but her frown shifted into a small smile as she made her way toward him.
They gave each other a quick hug then Mekhayla launched herself at him. One of his rare smiles crossed his face as he hugged her tight for a minute.
“What y’all got going?” he finally asked her.
She looked over at me. “Nah, what you got going with Little Miss Thick’ums here?”
I scowled at her and started to duck back into my room. Mekhi’s eyes shot to me, freezing me in place.
“Mind your business, Khayla,” he warned her, his gaze never leaving mine.
Gillian sniffed. “Honestly, Khi, this isn’t even like you. She’s one cheeseburger away from—”
“Ma!”
“Nah, I’m tired of her mouth. I’m leaving,” I exclaimed, storming into the bedroom.
I grabbed my purse and decided I’d send Kera or someone else to get my luggage later. I refused to stay here with this woman disrespecting me. I was sliding my feet into some ballet flats when I felt a strong hand close around my upper arm. I knew it was Mekhi but fuck him and his mama.
“Where you think you going?” he asked, pulling until I turned to face him.
“Away from here. She been insulting me since—”
“This my fucking house. Why you listening to her?”
“She’s your mama!”
I tried to yank away from him, but he held me tighter.
“I got her. You ain’t gotta worry about her. But you ain’t going nowhere.”
“Mekhi—” I pulled against him.
“Farrah—” he backed me against the wall and held on to me. “Chill. Seriously.”
He leaned in until his mouth was right above mine and I felt the fight leaving me.
My tongue darted out, and I licked my lips in anticipation.
I didn’t have long to wait. He kissed me softly, his hands easing under the hem of my dress, his tongue teasing the seam of my lips.
I lifted my arms to circle his neck but stopped when the sound of someone coughing intruded.
Looking over, I saw Gillian standing in the door and she was not pleased.
I tried to move away, but Mekhi held on to me
“Khi, what are you going to do about her?” she demanded.
That was it. I whirled around on her. “He needs to do something about you. I can’t tell if you his mama or his girlfriend!”
She gasped. “You big bitch! You better—”
“Nah, you better. I don’t know who you think I am, but I was invited here, and I expect to be treated like it!”
Gillian’s eyes flew to Mekhi. He just looked at her. I had to hide my smile. Pissed, she sucked her teeth.
“Well, I’m leaving—”
“No, you not. Not until I can talk to you and get someone to be with you, so stop the bullshit, Gillian. But Farrah ain’t going nowhere either,” he spoke up.
“What’s going on, Mekhi?” his sister asked suddenly, stepping into the room with concern on her face.
He shrugged. “Some weak nigga got it out for me, which means y’all could be in danger.”
“Her, too?”
She glanced at me. Mekhi nodded.
“Yeah. Her, too.”
Gillian let out a long, loud sigh, and I almost started counting again. This woman was something else.
“Can’t you protect her somewhere else?”
“What I tell you? Now, stop with all that.”
I guess she heard the warning in his tone, because her face twisted, but she didn’t say anything else. His hand lifted to my chin, and he turned my head to face him.
“You ready to catch this nigga?”
I nodded eagerly. Knowing Trell’s crazy ass was out there halfway stalking me was getting to me. The sooner Mekhi took care of him, the sooner my life returned to normal.
“Good. I got a plan.”
I couldn’t wait to hear it, but he made us all go to the living room first before calling in his guys. When everybody was finally there, he started to explain.
“You know Jarell got the wallet of one of the niggas who was working with Trell. Well, I got him. And I got something that’s gon’ make him want to cooperate with me.”
I bit down on my lower lip before speaking up. “What do you have?”
He looked at me, but before he could say anything, Mekhayla smirked in my direction. “Trust me, you don’t want to know.”
I opened my mouth to argue, but Mekhi was talking again.
“Trell had him watching you, Farrah. So, I’ma give this shit a couple of days to blow over then have him call Trell. Tell him you ditched Steel and Jarell, and you’re at your parents’ house by yourself. That should get him there.”
“And I’ll be waiting on him?” I said, ready for whatever was about to happen.
Mekhi looked at me like I was crazy. “Hell, no. Your car might be there, but you won’t.”
Immediately, I shook my head. “That’s not going to fool him. What if he tries to confirm what that man tells him? He’s going to know if someone else drove my car to the house. I think I really need to go.”
“Who asked what you were thinking?” he snapped, rubbing an impatient hand over his face.
I jumped up from my seat on the couch. “Look! I’m tired of Trell and his bullshit. If all I gotta do is go to my house and draw him out—”
Mekhi sprang up just as quickly as I had. Before I could take a breath, he was in my face, his hands on my shoulders.
“I don’t know what that nigga got planned. I’m not risking you like that, Farrah.”
“Why not?” Gillian mumbled.
He grilled her, his handsome face a mask of anger. “Because she’s… because I…”
I waited for him to finish, waited to hear him say what I was, what I meant. My stupid heart was pounding, excited and scared about what he might reveal. But instead, he just shook his head.
“I’m just not.”
Mekhi was used to his word being law, and I usually gave in. But this time, I had a feeling that I needed to press him. Trell liked something about me and if we could use that, then, fuck it, we were going to use it!
“Mekhi,” I began softly. “We already know he’ll show his face when he thinks I’m vulnerable.
I’m not saying I have to be by myself. You can lie down in the back of my car and ride over there with me.
Hell, your whole team can storm in right after he gets there.
But I need to be there. He needs to see me at that house. ”
He was shaking his head again already when Steel spoke up.
“Shit, she probably right, Khi. And we can be right there when he shows up. Park a street over or some shit and put eyes on the house.”
Mekhi scoffed. “What if something happens before y’all can get there?”
“It’s not!” I cut in. “You’re going to be there with me. Mekhi, we can do this. We can finally see what he’s up to.”
He looked at me for a long time. I made sure I kept my eyes on his, wanting him to see how sure I was. Finally, he gave a quick nod. I smiled and threw my arms around him, glad he was listening.
“Ay, but this goes just like I say. And if I feel anything is off, we canceling it,” he warned.
“It’s going to go perfectly. Just watch,” I told him.
