Chapter 4
Detective Eleana St. James
I was called in not too long ago to meet my partner, Detective AprilMcAdams, at Zeta Kappa Mu on University Drive. Arriving on the scene, the police are taking the appropriate measures to keep the campus safe and secluded from outsiders with barricades placed on both ends of the street. Walking into the frat house, some of the officers are questioning the ones who live here, and the coroner is currently bagging up three bodies. I find April easily enough after getting side eyed by some of the male officers.
“What have we got, April?” I ask, taking my pen and pad out.
“Three homicides, two in critical condition and one with no tongue.” She states. I shiver at the no tongue part. This job never gets easy. Seeing dead bodies day in and day out is not for the faint of hearts.
“Any leads?” I ask.
“No one is talking. All we were able to get was they were having their usual frat party and 3 masked assailants came in, turned the lights out and brutally murdered three men. The two that are in critical condition have mainly stab wounds and then we have the one without a tongue.” She states walking over to the body bags.
“The way the three were killed is almost a copycat of ‘The Carver’. The only difference is, it was rushed, it didn’t have the same intricate slices as he did but it’s pretty fucking close.” She says.
“That was over eighteen years ago. I thought he died. No one ever caught him and the killings stopped. Do you think he’s back?” I ask, bending down to look at the victim. She’s right. This can’t be him. It’s borderline too sloppy for him, or maybe it's the time and place which still doesn’t add up. I stand up and look at her with a raised brow.
“Someone has to know something. We need to shut shit down and question everyone that was here, starting with the top. Where is the head of the house?” I ask, looking around the room. Something isn’t adding up. I just can’t pinpoint what it is.
“He’s the one with no tongue.” She points to the ambulance hauling ass down the road.
“Well, do you have any suggestions? All I can think of right now is to question and wait for the autopsy to come back. Maybe the copycat left DNA behind?” I say as we walk around the room. My team is already taking pictures and dusting everything for prints. Hopefully, we can figure this out quickly.
“We can question everyone here and wait for the team to do their analysis and take it from there.” She says before taking out her phone to answer it. She steps away and I continue to survey the room. What really stands out for me is the words written in blood on the mirror above the fireplace.
“Little Red Riding Hood is coming for the Big Bad Wolf. You better hide little bitch.”
Taking out my phone, I snap a picture of it. The way it was written is by someone who is left-handed and possibly a female. It’s written too nicely to be a man.
“Eleana.” I hear my name and turn to April.
“We have another issue tonight. There’s been a shootout on County road 55, mile marker 10, on the outskirts of Whitestone and Daggerspoint. Two fatalities and several injured.”
“Why are they calling us? That’s not our jurisdiction.” I quip.
“Cartel leader is down. Now it makes it our jurisdiction.” She says.
“Shit, let's roll.” I blurt, heading out of the frat house and down the steps towards where I parked.
“You want me to drive?” I ask. April looks at me and smirks.
“Only if you promise to stay the night?” she says, stopping to wait for my answer.
“That can be arranged. My kids are out doing their own thing. I’ll just send Dylan a text and let her know I’m working late.” I wink.
“Ya know, one day I’d like to not be your dirty little secret.” She quips as we get to my car. I walk up behind her, pushing her up against the car, sliding my hands between her thighs. She groans and I kiss her lips lightly while applying pressure right where she begs for it. “Be a good girl or I’ll be the only one cumming tonight.” I whisper against her lips. She moans and I pull away, opening the door for her. She slides in and shuts it as I round the driver's side and get in. Starting her up, I turn the lights and sirens on and head for the last place I thought I’d see for the rest of my life.
