Chapter 18
Easton
Tonight has been the best night of my fucking life, but something is wiggling in the back of my brain that all of this is too good to be true. I smile as I sink my poignard into one of the guards' neck at the Wang Triads compound. We are all spread out around the property. Kingston is rerouting the cameras, Bentley is our Alpha- he calls the orders, Ace is in charge of weapons and ammo, while Antonio is our medic in case any of us go down and Me? I’m the sneak attack they don’t see coming. A silent killer in the night. My kill shot is the neck, it’s one part of the body that is the quietest and easiest to access. One swift stab in the neck, through the spinal cord, and that's it. Lights out. We work together, like a well-oiled machine; we may have separate jobs, but make no mistake, we are as lethal as they come.
Spade sent us here because the fall of a Queen has dire consequences, and with that, people are rushing to take over certain territories that were never meant for them. The Triads are slowly inching their way into our territory, wanting to be the new arms distro, which cannot happen. There’s history there that we aren’t privy to, which is really getting on my last nerve. I’m pretty sure we have proven ourselves to be valuable, time and time again, yet here we are. This place is like a fucking maze. Thank God for these night vision glasses, it makes our job so much easier.
There’s a guard standing on the other side of this partition. I can tell he is waiting for me to round the corner, but I’ve got a surprise for his ass. I take my poignard and twirl it in my hand. I love the weight of it in my hold, the feeling of slicing through skin, tissue and muscle makes me feel alive and exhilarated. Lifting the dagger in my hand, I take two slow steps, keeping my breath even, as I stab right through the paper-thin wall, hitting my mark in the throat. Luckily for the partition, the spray back is seamless. Removing my dagger as the body drops, I continue to the next room.
I’m wearing an earpiece so we can communicate as we move around this place. We are only here for one person but have orders to take down whoever gets in our way. I was really hoping for some fighting action tonight because my favorite weapon to use is the sais. It makes me feel like Raph from the Ninja Turtles. The silence on the walkie-talkie crackles over the airwaves; somethings not right. Time to check-in.
“Everyone clear?” I whisper as I turn the corner and see two guards coming right for me. Fuck yes. Taking out my sais, I spin them in my hands as the guards charge me. Their walkie goes off, which causes one to be distracted as I spin and send a fast jab of the sai up on a slight angle through both their chins hitting the brain. Lights out, mother fuckers. I remove my weapons and wipe the blood on my pants, then place them back into their holder. Another guy rounds the corner and retrieves his gun. Right before the dickhead in front of me drops, I grab a hold of his body and use him as a shield as the idiot alerts everyone where I am.
Reaching into my back pocket, I grab a throwing star and send it sailing through the air, hitting the moron in the eyeball. He screams, as I chuck the dead body at him, causing him to stumble back. Taking his own gun, I grab him by his collar and twist his wrist, forcing the gun under his chin.
“Where is Kai?” I growl. He says nothing.
“You’re dead either way, so spill it.” I grit, pressing the gun harder underneath his chin. He replies in his native language that I do not understand.
“Anyone get what he said to me, because I don’t fucking understand this language? Kingston?” I grit, hopefully someone is listening. I hear nothing. I usually hear some type of static letting me know we’re all here, but it’s fucking silent.
“Fatal, answer me before I start leaving the bombs everywhere.” I growl. Still radio fucking silent. That can only mean one thing. He has my team. BET. Instead of blowing this guy's head off and giving away my location, I slide my dagger slowly through the bottom of his chin, reveling in the sound of his blood choking him. He falls to his knees slowly and for dramatic effect, I remove my dagger, spin, and kick him in the face, causing him to hit his head hard on the ground leaving a cracking sound in its wake.
Walking silently through this maze, I come across dead guards littering the halls, which is a good sign I’m getting closer to where I need to be. Placing a block next to each room and guard I pass, I press a button on each one, waiting until it lights red. I continue forward until I start hearing voices. I’ve spent weeks studying the plans for this place, and know where Kai’s office is, banking that they are all in there. There’s a secret passageway that I want to come out from when I enter that room.
Using my night vision glasses, I click it over for the thermal feature. Looking into the room to my right, there’s four standing with three guards behind them, another guard in front of what I assume to be a desk, and Kai standing behind it. Now that I know where everyone is, I leave the room and count to five. Walking into the fifth room, I go to the back and push the shelf to the side and enter, sliding it back to close myself in.
Walking down the narrow hallway, I count again; this time to six. I take out a remote and flick the switch to one, two and three, setting off three bombs and causing the place to shake as I slide the secret door back open. I needed to make some noise so this fucker didn’t get the drop on me. The guards leave the guys to see what was happening. As I enter the room slowly, I silently retrieve a small dagger and walk up behind Kai and pierce his neck. I hold the weapon to his artery, applying just enough pressure that any sudden movement will end his life.
I look over at my team and see a smile on Bentley's face. The others look a little roughed up, but no injuries as far as I can tell. Ace quirks a brow at me and smirks.
“Now that we are all here, we can get this little show on the road.” Kai says.
“It’s funny how you think you’re still in control here. Those guards that just left, they’re dead.” I chuckle as my brothers put on their face masks.
“Did you know your father worked for the most ruthless players in the game? I’m impressed to see you're much smarter and more lethal than him. It’s a pity you and your friends chose the wrong syndicate to work for! You could’ve been an asset to me, but you and your little friends, your time ends here. Be careful who you trust. Not everyone wears the same face as you.” He spits, trying to distract me, but it won’t work.
He could tell me my father is alive and it still wouldn't make an ounce of difference. My father was a piece of shit, I’ve heard the stories over the years, so that tactic does fuck all in my eyes. I flick the switches for four, five, and six. The walls and windows rumble again. Bentley shoots the guard standing in front of Kai, and I apply the perfect amount of force to slice his artery wide open.
“The Kings send their regards,” I whisper, throwing his body to the ground. Placing my mask over my face, I rummage through his desk for a flash drive, finding four different ones and putting them in my pocket. We move quickly to get the fuck out of here as I continue to flip switches.
Standing outside, I flip another switch and pass it down the line where they do the same. The compound blows up like the Fourth of July, sending shards of wood, glass, and furniture into the night sky. We stand there watching the fire and smoke billow out and cloud above us for a moment before we hear the sirens. The wailing sounds getting closer, pulling us from the scene as we all pile in the van and high tail it out of here, heading for the warehouse. Looking around at the team, we all take our masks off, and Kingston has the biggest grin on his face.
“Check your accounts.” He orders. As Bentley hands me his phone while he drives, I log into both of our accounts and holy fucking shit.
“A mil each?” Ace shouts. I’m stunned at all the zeros. I look over at Kingston who still has a grin on his face.
“I was able to hack into Kai’s account, drain them into an offshore one and then split it six ways. I sent Spade his cut and we each got ours.” He whoops and we all laugh as Antonio takes out a joint and sparks it.
“Celebratory J.” He laughs, taking a hit and passing it around.
This night turned from shit to one of the best nights we’ve had in a long time. Now to get back to my woman so I can show her how much I fucking love her.
