Chapter 21
Detective Eleana St. James
It’s been over a month since the frat house killings and we still aren’t any closer to finding out who this new serial killer is. What’s even worse? The Carver is back and bloodier than ever. He’s not even being clean about it. It’s almost like he wants to finally be caught. Me and April stand in the pool house at the university looking at the corpse of a teenager who we can not identify. We will need to send his teeth in to get a match. There was no wallet or anything at the scene. It’s gruesome. His face looks like someone repeatedly kicked it in leaving nothing but shattered bones, his skin was removed and thrown in the pool. Whoever did this, cut every limb off and threw it in the pool leaving nothing but a naked torso sliced to shit. The only way we know he’s a male is because his genitals are hanging out of his broken jaw.
I’m at a point where I can’t profile the killer. This kill doesn’t scream ‘The Carver’ to me. His kills are more poetic, where his copycat loves to leave riddles. This one is just so much worse. We have nothing to lead on. The cameras were wiped and the IT guys tried to follow the IP address but it kept bouncing back here. It won’t go any further than this university.
Taking a deep breath, I walk out of the exit doors to get some fresh air. This paperwork is going to be atrocious. Between the serial killers and the Triad compound being blown up, I don’t even know where to begin. There’s a fucking war brewing, and as much as I need to stay far away from it, I’m also neck deep in it. Staying hidden is starting to get harder and harder with each passing day.
When you have been running from The Cartel most of your life, and now your own flesh and blood-the one who saved you from it all-is the leader and in over his head, it will cause you to not sleep at night. I don’t need the FBI zeroing in on my brother, or his business, so I try to cover up as much as I can. I’m exhausted.
We have been working for over a hundred hours straight and it doesn’t look like we will be getting to go home anytime soon. Suddenly the door swings open and April comes out, stalking over to me.
“We might have a lead, but you’re not going to like it.” She says and I sigh.
“What is it?” I ask, suddenly feeling like I’m not going to like what she has.
“Last students seen leaving the poolhouse were Easton and Dylan, apparently looking to be in a rush.” She says.
“Does anyone else know about this?” I ask.
“No, just the blonde girl named Bianca who came over to give me a tip when I went out the front looking for you.”
“Okay, we need to keep this airtight until we speak to our kids.”I say, giving her a stern look.
“I know, Ele.” She says.
“It’s time to call a meeting at home. Are we doing this together or separately?” I ask and she looks at me and laughs.
“I’ll call Easton, but I can’t make any promises that he will show. Why don’t you talk to Dylan by yourself. Maybe it’s a misunderstanding.” she says with a shrug and I nod.
Only one can hope.
