41. Ford #3
“All right, all right.” I move to my right, then lean in and kiss beneath her chin. “And if I haven’t already made it clear, you’re the sexiest person I’ve ever laid eyes on. And that includes all this extra flesh I fantasize about.”
Propping her head in her hand, she gives me a pointed look. “You fantasize about my double chin?”
“I fantasize about my cum painting your chin after I fuck your tits,” I say.
With a gasp, she drops her head back to the mattress and covers her eyes. “Ford!”
“What? Is that a problem?”
“You can’t say things like that!”
“Why? You don’t like it?” I reach for her hand, forcing her to look at me.
Considering how I made her come by sucking on her tits not so long ago, I figured she’d be into something like that, but what do I know?
My eyes narrow as I take her in. Pink cheeks.
Unable to hold my stare. Subtle squeeze of her thighs.
Yeah, my girl likes the idea of me fucking her tits, she just isn’t ready to admit it.
Not yet. With a smirk, I say, “Don’t worry, Bug. I’ll let you work up to it.”
Pressing her lips together, a lovely shade of pink spreading across her cheeks, she murmurs, “What am I going to do with you?”
“You’re going to ask me to stay the night.”
Her brows hitch. “Oh, I am?”
“Yeah.”
Her lips bunch like she tastes something sour. Not unpleasant, just…sour. But what’s more unnerving is the look in her pretty blue eyes. Gone is the innocent girl-next-door. Nope. She’s been body-snatched with a sexy detective.
“There a problem? Bug?” I question.
“One-night stands don’t stay the night.”
“This isn’t the first time we’ve hooked up,” I remind her. “And it’s not the last, either, so I’m pretty sure this doesn’t constitute a one-night stand.”
“Okay, casual hookups don’t stay the night.”
“And neither do friends of a friend,” I argue. “Guess that means we need a new title.”
Her brows lift, and honestly, I’m as shocked as she is.
I shouldn’t be. I know I like her. I know I want her.
I know the idea of someone else touching her or letting someone else touch me feels wrong.
And I know I’m an impulsive bastard who likes what he likes and wants what he wants.
And I want June Withers in all her naked, perfect glory.
“Ford…”
“Am I not allowed to want that?” I ask. “A new title?”
Nibbling the edge of her bottom lip, she holds my stare. “Why?”
“Why do I want a new title?”
“Yeah. Why do you want a new title when the way things are going feels like they’re right up your alley?”
I shouldn’t be surprised she’s calling me out for my bullshit past or my inexplicable change of heart, but I didn’t think I’d need to come up with an explanation.
Honestly, I’m struggling to wrap my head around the shift, too.
All I know is June is different. She was different from the moment we met.
And the idea of fighting it after everything we’ve been through feels moot.
“You want the truth, June Bug?” I ask.
She nods.
“Maybe I’m tired of hanging out in the alley.” I drag my fingers along the swell of her cheek. “Maybe I want to be inside, cozied up next to the fire with Quasimodough baking in the oven.”
“And where am I in this scenario?”
“On your knees, naked and swallowing my—”
“Ford!” She smacks my shoulder.
“Lemonade,” I finish. “Wait, did I forget to mention the lemon tree out back in this scenario?”
With a laugh, she snuggles up to my chest and relaxes against me. “And why would the fire be on when it’s lemon season?”
“Hey, don’t poke holes in my dream.”
Her breath of amusement hits my chest. “And what title comes with this dream?”
“The good girl swallower.” She pinches my nipple and twists. “Ouch! Okay, okay, I take it back.” Her grip disappears as she relaxes against me again. “Let’s call it the automobile merger. Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?”
Lifting her head, she gives me a puzzled look. “What?”
“You know, ‘cause you’re a loveable Bug, and I’m a Ford who likes to park inside your garage as much as physically possible.”
She bursts out laughing, her eyes crinkling in the corners in the most adorable way as she covers her mouth. “Oh my gosh.” She shakes her head. “I think you’re confusing your metaphors.”
“Yeah, well,” I drag my fingers along her spine, “as long as my feelings are genuine, right?”
Her smile softens as her pretty gaze bounces around my face.
There it is again. The simple acceptance and adoration I’m still getting used to.
Warmth spreads through my chest. I hook my hands behind my head and wait for her to decide whether or not she’s ready to take a chance on an asshole like me.
One who doesn’t know how to keep his sarcasm in check, even in the least appropriate times.
Like right now. I’ve never been the sappy type.
If I was, I’d tell her how beautiful she looks right now.
How much tonight meant to me. And how much I want my future to include her, though the possibility fucks with my head and potentially puts her in danger.
Shifting closer, she kisses me gently. “Would you like to stay the night?”
“Yeah, June. I really would.”
