FaceTime unavailable.
Tossing my phone across the center console, it bounces in the passenger seat, dropping into the footwell. Shoving my truck into reverse, I pull out of The Verge parking lot, heading back home.
My fingers strangle the wheel as I drive, frustration creeping in from the edge.
I knew it was going to be hard. Cooper has been growing bigger each day, my best friend well on his way to becoming an international rock star.
But to wait weeks, sometimes months, to get a reply?
That stings. The phrase “call you back” is completely meaningless now.
I can feel him pulling away, too. I know he’s keeping things from me, his successes, the wins, and I don’t know why.
Pulling into my driveway, I reach over and grab my phone, the date flashing bright on the screen and I open my text thread.
