Jay

Iinhale and exhale. The air is clean, much cleaner than the last time I was out. I pat my clothes and find a pen in my pocket. It will do. It takes two seconds to tie my hair up, and then I focus on them.

I don’t speak; I don’t think I need to. They know they are being rude.

With a growl, I sit down on the steps and lean back, leaving my legs wide open and watching them in a predatory way.

“Who are you?”

“Now, see. We’re all getting a bit pissy with that question. You don’t seem to be grasping the concept of our lives, and upsetting Kest isn’t going to fly. She is our main host, after all.”

I don’t know their names. I have very few of Merle’s memories of them and less of Kest’s. All I know is that these alphas are important. To them. To me, they are nothing.

“You’re not someone we’ve met yet.”

I sit up and slow-clap. “Well done, Sherlock Douchebag.”

Their scowls deepen, but they can’t match my anger.

“What is your name?”

I stare at the omega, studying him with a notch less hostility than I do the others.

“My name is Jay, and I’m here to deliver a warning. You get one. Then Raptor comes out to play, and she’s not going to be nice.”

They stare at me.

“When you hurt Kestrel, you hurt me, you hurt Raven, Dove, Raptor, and you hurt Merle.”

I see the comprehension cross their faces.

“You said they are different personalities.”

“Correction, Kest did. And we are, but we are also family, and you are making my family sad. She might not show it, but Kest is feeling your hostility. At the moment, we’re all protecting Merle from it, but we don’t have to.”

“That’s blackmail!” the blue-haired alpha growls.

I shrug. “I don’t really care. My body, my alters. What the fuck are you going to do about it?”

They all stare at me. I stand up and stretch.

The pain and memories return, taking my breath away.

I don’t want to be out.

“Remember, this is the only warning you are going to get.”

I let my hold on the body go, and someone pushes past, claiming the spot as I go into the abyss.
