“Fine, but like… It doesn’t make sense. He’s just going to release whatever to the media? Okay—so?”

Father gave me the look I hated most, especially from him. The one that said he really overestimated my intelligence.

The one Sagan gave me all of the fucking time and made me so nasty to her. She thought herself so much better than everyone and it drove me mad, made me mean.

She deserved everything I’d given her.

“Onyx wants to have Sagan sue us, you fucking moron,” Father bit out, nodding when I blinked at him.

“He doesn’t want the media or the court of public opinion.

He wants actual court—jury and judges.” He waved the folder around.

“And he has the proof. One of your friends already squealed and wrote a statement. None of them will ruin their futures for you in court.”

Fuck. No, they wouldn’t. Lying to our courts was a huge deal.

And stupid to even try with truth dragons.

“The queen can’t sue someone for talking shit,” I whispered, trying to wrap my mind around what he was saying. “For a recording that—”

“You faked it,” Father bellowed. “That’s the same thing as going on the news and telling every lie you did, dumbass!

You’re liable for all that slander and more.

We are because Onyx has proof I paid people off to help you because you wouldn’t even fucking apologize!

And he’s right. I let you! I let you get—your mother is furious with me and… ”

Father left. He shook his head and left, not willing to even yell at me anymore.

Which was bad. Like really bad.

Fuck.

Elira was waiting down the hall out of the way but clearly had been listening in. “I told you it was a stupid plan and you won’t win over Sagan.”

I shot her the look she deserved and kept walking. “No, you couldn’t win over her.” I ground my jaw when she of all people gave me that look like I was an idiot.

Maybe I really was. I’d fallen for her bullshit after all.

“How could you not look at what was in the folder?” she grumbled as we kept walking. “Seriously, who knew Onyx was so—”

I spun on her and pushed her. “You too? My uncle isn’t all of that. You were the one who said he wasn’t Alpha and to ignore him.”

Pity filled her eyes but then was gone. “I’m not saying I want him, chill. I’m saying it’s a shock to know he has this side.” She shoved me back. “You were shocked, right?”

Yeah, that was fair, and I let it go.

“Besides, Alpha Mate was the goal, not the Alpha’s younger brother’s mate,” she mumbled under her breath. She snorted when I chuffed. “Hypocrite. You’re seriously a hypocrite. And as sexist as you keep showing if you can’t even accept that.”

I swallowed down my reaction, my mother already laying into me that I couldn’t judge Elira for sleeping with someone to get a better position in life when I’d been doing the same with Sagan. I still thought it was different.

“Because you were the fool this time. You only think it’s different because she did it to you. Anyone with brains knows better,” my dragon lectured in my mind. The fact he’d always been on my ass about how I treated Sagan was beyond annoying.

He was supposed to be on my side after all.

“Did you get to see the video?” she asked. “I’m curious now what got her all hot and bothered when you said she was broken.”

I shoved her away again when I reached my suite and closed the door in her face, steaming when she simply chuckled, mocking my behavior.

Yeah, well, Mother and Father would kick me out if I ever hit a woman, especially in their house.

They “forgave” my almost hitting Sagan because I defended she hit me first and then it was just instinct.

Especially when I reminded them how much stronger she was than everyone. But a weaker dragon from an unfortunate background like Elira?

I’d be dead. I’d be seriously dead.

“She won’t do it,” I muttered, thinking about the lawsuit. “She doesn’t have the guts, and if she was so hurt by it all, then I still have power over her. She won’t go back there. She won’t make it all worse and more for the public.”

I flopped onto my bed and settled with that, still healing from fucking Onyx. Fucking psycho.

Elira came in half an hour later like nothing had happened and ignored me as she sat in the chair and scrolled on her phone.

Probably making more plans for when she was Alpha Mate and could take over the castle as she wanted.

She was already plotting for my parents’ deaths so she could be Alpha Mate and run the household—even Applerest probably in her mind.

She’s so fucking stupid. She’s never going to be Alpha Mate. Fucking dumbass whore.

I glanced at her and swallowed down my disgust. She wasn’t even as pretty as Sagan. I really fucked everything up by not being able to control my temper and being spoiled.

“You did, but you won’t learn from it. You never do. You just want to get revenge against her when she was your victim. You’re disgusting,” my dragon lectured until I started singing in my head.

Nice that not even my own dragon was on my fucking side.
