Onyx
I swallowed loudly and knew it was time to be honest with someone for real—if I wanted something real. My fear melted a bit when I saw only understanding and curiosity in her eyes, no judgment.
“I knew pretty young I was stronger than Vex. My dragon did and he wanted to shine. He wanted to be Alpha.”
She licked her plump lips. “And they don’t like being hidden and denied. It makes everything worse.”
I felt so, so stupid to have missed this. Of course she understood.
She’d been through the same thing! Her parents had downplayed how strong she was. Even Vex and Kole had been beside themselves when Sagan had kicked ass all over the place.
Everyone had been.
“Yeah, it really does,” I whispered, rubbing my hand over her soft skin, realizing we were completely perfect for each other. Others just wouldn’t understand this. “I loved my brother though and my parents—I knew I would have lost my family if I shined over him. So I focused on school and whatnot.”
“But Vex figured it out. He’s not stupid.”
“No, he’s not, and he made it clear that I should go make my own path or he would make one for me and it might be in the ground.” I nodded when her eyes went wide. “It took me years to forgive him.”
“How do you forgive that?” she hissed, going to pull away from me, but I stopped her.
“Because I saw how scared he was then too,” I explained. “Years later when I could be objective, I realized he was scared. He didn’t hate me or want me hurt. He was terrified of losing everything.”
She swallowed loudly. “Do you know for sure he wouldn’t have hurt you?” My silence said everything and she shocked me by flicking me in the forehead. “Then you don’t forgive it. Ever, Onyx. That’s a threat to you and—”
“I know. I know, baby girl,” I whispered.
“But some of us aren’t as strong as you like that.
It was just easier to leave and know I could go back and still had a family.
There were just some repercussions then because my dragon was pissed Vex basically cheated by threatening us instead of working harder. ”
She searched my eyes, and for a moment I would have sworn two of the highlights in her hair changed from orange to violet, but it must have been a trick of the lighting because I blinked and it was normal again. Weird.
But the topic was emotional and my eyes were even itching.
“You’re like Myriam, aren’t you?” she chuckled when my mouth fell open.
“She is one of the most moral and honorable people I’ve ever known, but it’s her honor, and there is no limit to how far she will go if you cross it.
I know she’s killed people. I have, but in self-defense or defending someone.
She has because someone crossed her and she made it hurt. ”
I swallowed loudly again. “And if I said yes?” I got the shock of my life when she leaned in and brushed her lips over mine. “Why? Why would you accept that?”
Something dark filled her eyes as well. “Do you hurt animals or children? No. You’re willing to go darker than most and peel the skin off of bad people. I could give you a list of where to start if your dragon needs it, okay? Have fun.”
I kissed her with all I had, maybe completely falling for her in that moment. “Wait, wait, there’s something else I need to tell you that Vex and Kole know now and might throw out there to mess this up.”
“Worse than your dragon is a bad, bad boy?” she teased.
“Fuck, you are perfect,” I chuffed. “But—my dragon reacted to you the day we met.” I nodded when she froze. “He—I wasn’t giving you a line when I said I always planned to pursue you, Sagan. I did. I was going to—you were always going to be mine.”
She searched my eyes. “Swear to me that Kole didn’t know that or—”
“He had no idea,” I promised and then snorted. I quickly told her about what happened when I went home and how I beat both their asses. I rambled on because I was nervous about what she would say and how I even threw it in Kole’s face just how much she wanted me.
She wanted the truth, so I gave it to her.
And she gave me the gift of seeing her naked body again. She took off her robe and begged me to please her, saying I could have her.
Fuck. Me. Hard. She was so perfect.
Instantly, my fingers were in her pussy as I lifted her breast to my lips.
“No, have me,” she whispered, squirming on my lap.
Oh shit. Oh shit. I mentally groaned and realized I was possibly going to do something stupid. I kissed her deeply and kept fingering her. “You said no earlier, baby girl. Pressuring you isn’t—influencing you isn’t consent to me. Not consent I’m okay with.”
She lifted her head and searched my eyes. “That’s actually fucking hot. Really hot.” She panted as she got close. My eyes about rolled up into my head as she played with her own nipples and rode my fingers.
“You are so gorgeous I will never get enough of you,” I breathed, moaning as she cried out my name and came, her juices soaking my fucking hand.
Sagan De la Rosa was so mine and she just had to figure out how to accept that… Which was hysterical that I kept declaring that after what I’d just said about consent.
Whatever, I was a dragon, not perfect.
“Wait, before you tell me the rest,” she panted against my lips when I went to close her robe. “There’s something I really want.”
“Anything.” And I meant it. She could have anything she wanted from me.
The pretty little whimpers and chuffing she did at hearing me say that made my cock twitch. Then my sexy, sexy future mate undid my slacks and pulled out my cock.
She stroked me while sweetly asking me to play with her tits and come on her.
“I have not treated you well enough to deserve this paradise,” I moaned as I enjoyed what she offered. “Fuck, I will do better, baby girl. I will, please, please, I need to—you have no idea how long it’s been and—”
“How long?” she asked, stopping what she was doing. “You made it sound like you were a player at dinner. Now you’re making it sound like… Why do you always confuse me?”
“Because I’m very stupid,” I mumbled. “I’ve gone on dates. It’s expected of me in my position. You know that.” I waited until she nodded and then swallowed loudly. “But I haven’t been with anyone since I met you.”
“What?” she gasped. “That was almost a decade ago.”
“I know,” I chuckled darkly. “My dragon was—he didn’t want anyone else.” I searched her shocked face. “Too much?”
She licked her lips and started moving her hand again. “Apparently not because I’m dripping again and I want you to finish even more now.”
Oh fuck. Just… Fuckkkkkkkk.
Then she completely did me in. One word from her sweet lips in a pleading tone that just—I would do anything to have her do it again.
“Please?”
I exploded on her. No warning and I was just coming and like a lot. She seemed startled as I kept spurting more onto her body… And I fucking loved it.
My dragon did and it was exactly what we needed—how our future mate should be when she was naked around us.
She licked her lips when I was finally done. “I think you needed that.”
“I needed that from you,” I clarified, glad that I did because heat was in her eyes. “I want to please you again, but I have a feeling you can’t do this all day.”
She quickly looked at the clock and winced. “No, but I’m glad you’re back.” Her smile was shy. “I wanted you here for lunch. They’re changing—it’s one of my favorites.”
“I’m glad I’m back then too. Can I sit with you?” I beamed at her when she smiled and nodded. “Can I clean you up, My Queen?”
She really liked that. Treating Sagan with care was the way to her heart. She’d been dismissed and neglected—abused by not just Kole, but her parents. It was what she needed in a partner.
I knew the feeling.
“My shower’s big enough, but I don’t think you—” she started to say.
“I’m filthy. Fucking filthy,” I growled and picked her up.
I spent the next twenty minutes in the shower with her and they were some of the best of my life. She was shy but let me touch my fill. I got to finger her once more, but then it was clear she really did need to get going.
“Can I come back tonight?”
She shot me a worried look. “If lunch goes well.”
Baby steps. I needed patience and not to be so pushy with her. “I’ll make sure it does even if I have to beat people so you smile.”
“What—I still need the details.”
I nodded but then froze. “Would you trust if I told Darren and his counsel on this?”
She sighed. “You are like Myriam. You want me to have deniability.”
“Yes, but also you can never look at Vex the same again and—”
“We’re already there,” she brushed off. “After seeing the dismissive emails he sent Father, not even picking up his phone calls or willing to speak to the PI that Father had been working with—he’s willfully ignorant on Kole’s behavior.
He wasn’t in the dark like Lori’s dad.” She snorted. “Everyone loved him and was shocked.”
“I didn’t care for him much, but I bought the act,” I admitted. “I thought he did it for the wrong reasons but also was a brat who enjoyed the perks. I had no… He wouldn’t have been who I would have picked to pull that shit.”
Her eyes flashed shock. “Exactly what a few others have said. But apparently everyone else knew about Kole besides me. That made Vex the problem.”
“Not everyone,” I said gently since I saw the wound was deep for her. “Lots of women came forward that he played them too.”
She seemed to accept that and then gave me permission to talk to Darren. If he thought this plan had any merit, then we could talk it over more.
Luckily, Darren was a smart man who was willing to do whatever it took to protect his niece. He also was smart enough to know something big was going on and to make time for me.
He tossed everything onto Rhys’s desk, taking over his deceased brother-in-law’s study when he handled work as Sagan’s advisor. It was with her permission and they were working on a new one for her, but it was weird to see him there.
And yet oddly fitting as an elder of the family. Almost like he was the father I needed to charm and Rhys had been… King.
Ouch. Poor Sagan.
