Chapter Twenty-Six

Mia

I stand on shaky legs, walk towards my bedroom, and start packing a bag with trembling hands.

I checked for flights, but it was getting too overwhelming, so I decided to call an airline. I’m barely hearing the agent over the pounding in my ears.

Twenty-seven hours.

That's the soonest I can get there. Twenty-seven hours of not knowing. Twenty-seven hours of imagining every possible version of him dying before I arrive.

I stop thinking and just give them my credit card information as I walk out the door. I don't even remember locking it behind me.
